he did it 3 times--and while he made one lucky shot, i hope he doesnt start this. i dont know if its me or did he put on a few pds again? maybe thats just the way hes built because he moves very well.
but getting back to my point--he is a bull, he should awlasy be aggresive moving into the basket--every time. he will either get a high% shot or get fouled. fading away takes away his strengths. Use his agility and bulk to move TOWARS the basket or move the ball around if you cant get to where you want to go.

I love it when Sweetney's aggressive, but if he can nail that fade on a consistent basis he'll have that shot everytime. It doesn't hurt to mix it up, but obviously I don't think either of us want to see him grow dependant on fading. At the same time, if all he does is bull his way to the basket - defenders will catch on. It would lead to offensive foul after offensive foul. I'd like to see Sweets develop that well-rounded big man post-up game.

I didn't like those fadeaways either. Almost wish he hadn't made the first, because it encouraged the 2nd & 3rd, IMO. Think this was partly a matter of good defense. He's not going to have the move to the hoop every time, and I think they took it away from him in these cases. Problem was, everyone else on the team was standing around watching so he didn't have an obvious outlet and got a little impatient throwing up the fadeaways instead of waiting for an open passing lane.

Sweet is not yet a dominating post man. We can't just dump the ball in to him and stand around. But he's getting there. He's the only guy on our team (maybe TT on a good night) who will regularly demand a double. He's just got to learn a little more what to do when the double comes, and what to do when it doesn't.

the only time he took those fadeaways were when KG was lingering in the paint. i agree, when he takes it strong, he gets to the line. something that only one other person on the team does (marbury). he should be out there posting up the entire 4th quarter putting the other team's scrubs in foul trouble. he really should be the 1st option down the stretch of games. that may sound crazy but i think that's where the team will eventually need to go.

hitting that fade away sets up the pump fake, thats pretty huge especially against bigger defenders.

If he can make it, then there is nothing wrong with the fade away shot. The last one he took rimmed in and out. I'd rather him post and mix it up but on the upside, he did look comfortable out on the floor.

that fade reminded me of LJ. And it reminded me how small Sweets really is. I think the main problem with Sweets is he has to learn how to get in position much closer to the basket. A turn-around fade is much easier if you're only five feet out. 10-15 feet out and its tough.

Well, a fade away from really close to the basket against a taller defender is alright, if you make the right move. But I agree that he took a couple of pointless fadeaways from really deep. Those are the shots that TT, Crawford and Allan Houston should be taking, not Sweetney. If Sweetney wants to hit a J, it should be from a pick and roll, or just a spot up shot from close, or a CLOSE to the basket J. A fadeaway from 12 feet and beyond is bad.

Fishmike, you said that he needs to shoot in order to establish that J. Yes, but he has to hit those shots too, in order for the best of defenders to bite.

I did like what I saw from Sweetney, besides those fades though. The one that he hit was pretty close, so I'll take it. He's gonna be good.

Briggs, BTW, he does seem to have a lot of weight to lose, so lets see how his endurance will hold him up, throughout the rest of the season. He needs to continue getting in shape. He does have more quickness and exploseiveness though, and runs the court well.

i think the matchups were tough for sweetney, he's big and powerful but short, and minny's frontline is significantly longer. against teams with PFs not quite as good as garnett he'll be more effective and get more time.
