He’s got quality 2-way PG written all over him. He is a instant contributor for defense and has the wingspan to support it. He can shoot spotting up or off the dribble. He was great as a sophomore and only 20 years old. How does a team in the 20s pass him up? His upside is quality starter and downside is still a quality backup. I hope his contract is 4 years. He’s a long term core piece and will see time initially as a situational defensive stopper (like Ntilikina was) but will eventually be a nice supporting piece and safety net to the Walker/Rose tandem at PG. Excited about his future with the Knicks. He and Quickley could be the future of the guard positions here.

He's 20 and his playmaking skills aren't polished. It's ridiculous, but scouts Chase players with the perceived higher upside. We saw it last year with IQ.

I think this past year was difficult to evaluate players. Not really the normal environment. I’m willing to bet the order was wildly wrong just based on Covid

He looks like he can score on the NBA level. I don't know if he is a distributor yet, but his offense looks good. I like his ball handling too. I think he has more reliable handles than IQ.

But also I felt like the draft was pretty flat. I couldn't figure out who was better between Butler, McBride, Springer for example.

You’re right. That’s the reason a lot of these guys had a range of mid first to second round. Butler fell for medical concerns. McBride seems circumstantial for other reasons. Maybe he just didn’t work out for the right teams or teams who liked him already made promises.

Not sure why he fell out of the first round...just glad he did.

As some have said, you have to figure it has something to do with the fact that he's not a pure PG, and small for a SG.

He's really an old school guard, who can do a little of everything. With his wingspan and lateral movement, you can see him being able to guard PGs and many SGs.

I think we were pretty lucky to get him at 36.

The more I watch him the more I think the reason why he fell to the 2nd round is because he has trouble beating his man off the dribble and when he does he has some trouble scoring in traffic. He does everything else well as we have seen to far in SL and in the tape from college.

Yeah, I agree. He does not have that explosive first step to beat his man off the dribble. I also have not seen him really create anything for others, which may just be a result of him playing mostly off IQ. There is no doubt that he has solid across the board skills, but he seems more like an George Hill type level ceiling, which is still great for a second round pick. He could be a solid backup for years to come. With Walker, Rose, IQ, and Burks all playing some PG, I doubt we see much of McBride this year.

size. he's on the smaller side. teams like their PGs bigger - like 6-4 and up. it's a thing
