ISIAH, ROBINSON MAY MEET

By MARC BERMAN

November 4, 2004 -- KNICK NOTES MINNEAPOLIS — The Knicks have emerged as "one of the front-runners" for the services of free agent small forward Eddie Robinson, according to a league source.

The source said Knick scouts and possibly Isiah Thomas will meet and work out Robinson next week. His exorbitant contract was bought out Monday. Robinson nearly was included in the Jamal Crawford package last August, but Bulls GM John Paxson pulled him out of the deal because he no longer wanted Shandon Anderson.

Isiah said over the summer he felt he could change Robinson's career path and had extensive conversations with Crawford, who recommended him. Robinson is a 6-9, athletic swingman, the type Isiah fancies.

"He's a great player," Crawford told The Post before the Knicks dropped a 99-93 decision to the Timberwolves last night. "He was our best shooter on the team last year and one of the most athletic players in the NBA. He should've played more."

The Knicks can sign Robinson to the minimum wage for players of five years service, $807,000. The Knicks also have $1.4 million left of their $4.9 million exception. The Knicks tried to use a piece of their exception in August on Keon Clark, but he never got back to them.

Agent James Bryant said he's received inquiries from 12 teams.

"We're looking for the right fit," Bryant said. "New York is an exciting opportunity."

If Isiah signs Robinson, he'd have to make a cut. He could accelerate buyout talks with Anderson or release Croatian center Bruno Sundov, who's on the injured list.

Houston said Latrell Sprewell's "feeding-the-family" remark can give pause to fans.

"People who are in dire situations will probably not understand that comment," Houston said. "Do I understand it? I understand what he means by it. He's working hard to do his job. But again somebody making $30,000 a year may not really understand it."

Sprewell, who missed six preseason games with an ankle sprain, was booed during intros and every time he checked in. He finished with 10 points.

I see no one has anything to say about this but Timmy disappeared again. Robinson isn't any better but.....Timmy could be apart fo a trade to fix other posisitons......Ariza and Robinson at the 3 could work.

I know this is game 1 out of 82 but wtf? The Knicks should have won the game. Timmy was a non factor.

Rest assure friends, Isiah and Lenny will not tolerate that type of performance from TT. 23 minutes 3/13, 7 pts, 4 rbs, and no foul shots will easily earn him a spot on the bench. In fact Lenny did just that, Ariza 22 minutes 4/7, 8 pts, 5rbs, 3asts, and 2 stls will definitely earn him a lot more playing time over him. Wow, didn't Michael Redd do the same thing to him when he was in Milwaulke???? Somebody may want to point that out to him. He could have at least attack the basket and collect foul shots. If that cat was to only go to the foul line 6 times, he could have at least earn six free points from there.

Dude! it is time to wake up. Get smart, the game is a very easy game, specially for a cat with your skills.

I brought up that point about moving Ariza to the starting spot and Robinson as backup (or vise-versa) about 2 days ago. I'm not at all educated on E. Robinson so I don't know what he will provide.

E rob did some nice things in Charlotte a few years back. Think a Darious MIles, but bigger. He got the injury bug and lost his rotation. Money likely de-motivated him.

tough for me to find a place where he would fit in on this team unless a move is in the making.

Would you consider him a better option off the bench than Shandon?

anyone is a better option than Anderson. ERod just needs a change of scenery. There were too much heat in Chicago after the era of Jordan and Pippen. I don't care how talented one was, they would have never succeeded in Chicago. It will take them about 6 more years, before they can become a competitive team again.

that would be shaq.
what can we get for let's say nazr/tt? about 17-18mil in ending contract plus a 2nd rounder for a center at the trade deadline. or just wait till' the offseason to trade their aysses. maybe it's just that first game talking, these two made me sick. TWO 6'10 guys could'nt score OR rebound. sad! if one of them would have came through, we get our first win.

i don't know, but i think Brad Miller may be a guy we should keep an eye on...who knows how that SAC franchise is going to go forward if they have a disappointing season this year...i have a feeling they are on the cusp of a rebuilding phase over there...i'd LOVE to get Brad Miller on this team...he'd be the perfect fit.

...

Agent James Bryant confirmed that Knick brass wishes to meet with free-agent swingman Eddie Robinson sometime next week in Chicago.

However, Bryant said, the Knicks told him they won't need to work out Robinson.

The Knicks appear to be the leading candidate to land Robinson, because Bryant says he hasn't scheduled a meeting with another team. Robinson, bought out by the Bulls on Monday, initially was included in the Jamal Crawford package last summer but was taken out of the deal.

If the Knicks sign Robinson, they'd have to make one cut — either expedite buyout talks with Shandon Anderson, a DNP on Wednesday, or release Croatian center Bruno Sundov, who is inactive.

Team president Isiah Thomas declined to talk to Knick writers yesterday, but was quoted in his hometown paper in Chicago, as saying, "I'm interested in all talented players who become available. And Eddie is a very talented player."

Nothing's gonna happen unless we can do something about Shandon. Zeke wouldn't sign him just to put him on the IL.

If you have not noticed, Mooch and Penny are the backups. No mooch, you only have Penny. Can't have penny in some match ups, he don't move.

I agree, moochie will be the one to go on the IR. Erob can backup Jamal at SG and Ariza can backup T.T at SF.
