Papabear Says

Burks will stay with the Knicks for three years, $30 million, and Noel, three years, $32 million, signing very similar contracts that provide offensive and defensive proficiency on both ends of the floor.

Last season, Burks averaged 12.7 points, 2.2 assists, and shot 42% from the field. He impressively connected on 41.5% of his shots from range, averaging 5.0 attempts per game. Alec is a quality offensive play-maker, coming off the bench and giving the Knicks immediate point production when they needed it most. He can play both small forward, shooting guard and fill in at point guard if necessary.

They clearly value the former first-round pick, as his contract will expire at 33 years old. Continuity remains a priority for New York, as they also brought back Noel, who posted a career-high 2.2 blocked shots per game during the 2020-21 season. While he doesn’t offer much on offense, averaging 5.1 points, he is a solid complement to Mitchell Robinson, who will earn $1.8 million after the Knicks picked up his club option.

Unexpected but can’t say they weren’t major pieces to last year’s run.

Smart move. Both guys were key players last year, and the deals are reasonable enough that the Knicks should be able to easily trade them. Since they signed for about what they are worth, the contracts actually are assets.

Cool. Re-signed two of our players who helped us get destroyed 1st round vs. Atlanta last year.

#1 in available salary cap space and failed to improve our team throughout FA not even one bit.

Terrible moves that lock us into mediocrity.

One thing about last year— Derrick rose played a huge huge role in WINNING. We’re not close to the same team last year without him. Also Julius Randle really jumped up in skill. He would have to sustain it—-anything close to the playoff performance— were different

These guys have heart. Glad to see them back.

And I hope Nerlens adds a couple of offensive options to his game.

WTF people?!

We were one of the worst teams in the league before our turnaround last season. Noel and Burks were a huge part of that. They both deserved their contracts and are still valuable with those contracts. Saying you stay mediocre with these moves, when they are the start of FA and they actually show the Knicks are run differently now, valuing their own before keeping improving the team, this is all great news.

I know many are bitter we didn’t sign Lonzo, which I wanted as well. In this office we’ll trust, because there has to be a reason they moved in another direction. Thibs earned the right to build his team with this office and they seem set on doing so.

This is just the start, and it’s great that the start tells the rest of the league that we are loyal to the players that give their all to us in becoming the best team possible.

A full 3 years for each, or are there team options involved for the 3rd year on one, or both, of them?

Would other teams have given these guys 10 mil per for 3 years? It seems like a lot to lock into these 2. They're decent role players but it just feels like a lot.

Wonder what impact this has on Randle. Seemed like at least half his assists were to Bullock.

Randle seemed to start believing in his abilities to make very hard shots in the playoffs. Of course the % caught up with him. His main focus — taking good smart shots. There will other shooters to take bullocks place
