Schedule

Sounds like Quick, Toppin, Vildoza (after Olympics), Knox, possibly Barrett will be joining our draft picks in Las Vegas. At the very least, you know those practices will set the tone early.

Vildoza/McBride/Jokubaitis
Quickley/Grimes
Barrett/Knox
Toppin
Sims/Simms

Some other familiar names on the roster…
Travis Reid (formerly Kentucky)
Justin Patton (former Westchester)

Funny, but I am excited to just see some Knicks youths on the court.

Predicting Vildoza to Toppin alley oop becomes a thing.

You know I gonna spin wit it

I don't want R.J. Barrett, Immanuel Quickley or Obi Toppin to play in summer league.

Reddish is playing for ATL. Coming off injury, so makes some sense. I like the idea of Barrett being in Vegas with the youth. Wouldn’t mind Rose and Randle stopping by to workout with them. I think the thing I love about this team is that they willing and wanting to put the work in. No reason to discourage the behavior you want.

O.k. Obi? Ok.

I disagree with Quickley. Immanuel Quickley made an All-Rookie team and has been practicing against team USA as a USA Select selection.

Immanuel Quickley is beyond summer camp my dude. Because he's already proven his worth.

And he needs some offseason rest before burning out and running into a 2nd year wall.

Quickley didn’t even experience summer league. Saying he is beyond summer league coming from his rookie season when he still has lots to work on, I don’t agree with that. Maybe not playing a lot of minutes while working on specific aspects like his playmaking, yes. But I think it would help both Obi and IQ to actually experience summer league.

ITs not about demonstrating worth, its about creating culture and familiarity. Let them practice, let them play.
Barrett can lead. Quick needs work in his handle and playmaking. Its not just about the games.

I'm really excited to see how much the chance of a pace and hesitation moves in the Rokas bag translates against NBA defenders. Disappointed that Jazzmataz isn't on this year's squad.

Barrett just played for team Canada and Quickley is still practicing for team USA Select.

These kids needs a little offseason rest in preparation for 2021-2022 and I'd hate for either one of RJ/IQ to become injured during a meaningless Summer League in which they do not need.

Obi Toppin? O.k. He sat the bench behind Julius Randle so I'm down with Obi playing in Summer League.

But kids like IQ/RJ/Mitch/Julius? No way.

Canada got eliminated WEEKS ago. And IQ was sent home weeks ago too

None of these guys are sitting on the couch with their feet up all day right now. They are all in the gym and probably playing some form of pickup games once in a while. So summer league is really nothing. No one plays a lot of mins in summer league anyway.

Can’t wait to see these Knicks youth in action! Go Knicks!

I like the idea of Quickley and Obi playing. Quickley will hopefully get some floor time at PG. Even if he’s ultimately a SG developing his PG skills will help his development and ultimately his earnings potential down the road.

Finally seeing some Vildoza will be great. Should be interesting to see how McBride compares in style, impact and production. Jokubaitis probably has the most upside of any PG on the team. So Id love him to get some minutes before getting stashed away.

Obi making a leap in yr 2 would be nice to see too.

I don’t think RJ should play but he and Randle should be in Vegas just bonding with the team and maybe doing workouts. IQ and Toppin should play, and all our rookies should play. Maybe you hold out IQ after the first two games to let Luca, McBride, and Grimes get big minutes, but IQ should be part of the summer league team.

Rokas interview talking about the draft experience, likely plans for the next year and Summer league.
https://m.basketnews.com/news-154480-jokubaitis-talks-amusing-nba-draft-night-knicks-surprise-and-his-future-with-barca.html
- Congratulations on being drafted by the New York Knicks. But 10 days ago, you officially signed a contract with Barcelona until 2025. What's next? The Summer League? New York or Barcelona?
- I'm still waiting for the news about the Summer League. If I'm going to the United States now, later I will go straight to Barcelona from there, which means I won't see my family and friends before the season.

But I would love to test myself in the Summer League. I want to show what I can do and check how they play there.

- What are your chances of coming to New York immediately, starting with the next season?
- I was told that if I were drafted, I would be stashed. I think it's the most realistic scenario. After a good season in Europe, I could come to work out for the team or play in the Summer League and fight for the roster spot.

You have to expect the best. It would be perfect if I had the chance to choose between New York or Barcelona. However, it would be a tough decision.

In my opinion, the most likely scenario for me is staying in Europe at least for one more year.

- Hypothetically, if it was up to you, you go straight to New York or Barcelona?
- I knew you'd ask me this (laughs). It's so tough to say... First of all, I want to see from inside how they work in the USA, to see the players, coaching staff. Then it would be easier to decide.

I prefer Europe so far. But I was never so close to the NBA. Now, after this draft night, I can talk about the NBA more seriously.

It's so weird because I always considered myself a European-style basketball player. That would be a tough decision...

- What did you learn about your new NBA team in less than 24 hours?
- The organization, this franchise... Madison Square Garden... These are the first things that come to your mind.

They're back to the playoffs. The Knicks were one of the teams who came back from the bottom. I see they have a clear direction now.

Once I played against RJ Barrett in an exhibition game with the Lithuania youth team. I remember him dunking over our big man's head...

I thought they would go deeper into the playoffs. After coming back to the playoffs, the expectations were so high that it was hard to deal with the loss against the Atlanta Hawks. The Knicks fans are so emotional. You probably remember Kristaps Porzingis's story...

- That's the thing I wanted to ask you... What were your first interactions with the Knicks fans?
- I checked their Facebook page, and I've read the comments. And I saw people texting 'who's this guy,' 'Tingis Pingis' and something like that (laughs).

Awesome interview! You always wonder what an European player soon to be stashed thinks about the whole situation. He seems very real about it. You would favor Europe if you’d been there all your life, but would be intrigued about the challenge of proving yourself with the big boys of the NBA.

He seems clear on the importance of developing in Barcelona this year, while him saying he could later come to fight for a spot projects some humbleness about the situation. I like that attitude about fighting to make the team.

He is open to summer league and seems to really have sights set on an NBA expérience, but Aldo being cautions about it. I really like this kid!
