It seems to me that the knicks really don't have a future plan. we planned for Lebron, Melo, Irving, Durant and others and got nothing. So why should I believe they have a plan. Maybe they got lucky with Randel.

They basically traded up with the 19th pick. Charlotte is improving but probably still a lottery team next season


Grimes might be steal if the draft. He wrecked the nba draft combine in scrimmages and his college tape looks good

Charlotte isn't a lottery team. They're on the rise.

Knicks seemed like they didn't get their guy and I'm guessing were turned away at trading up. So they pivot and acquire assets.

Charlotte had the 11st worst record in all of basketball last year @ 33-39 and I expect them to really struggle next year (even more) due to even more inexperienced youth.

They have a young team with a lot of depth and talent and made the play in. They will get better and fast.

The 32 for 34 and 36 was a stroke of magic. That was a fantastic trade.

From what I read the best the pick could be is #15, depending on the year. Could even end up being two #2's.

All things considered, the price was reasonable. Per ESPN's Bobby Marks, the Hornets' first-rounder will be top-18 protected next year, top-16 protected in 2023 and then lottery-protected in 2024 and 2025 before converting into a pair of future second-rounders if not conveyed by that point. So the highest this pick can be (No. 15) is just four spots better -- not much compared to the usual premium teams pay when trading future picks for current ones.

Prior to the trade we had come down to one last day to use the #19 pick of 2021 in trade.
Now we have the pick to trade that we wouldn't have had after today.

We essentially extended the shelf life of a valued asset.

Everything in moderation. Even moderation.

Yep, I don't know why people are upset about the protections- it's a 1st round pick for a future trade, that's essentially lottery protected ad will most likely convey in year 3 or 4. Very useful to throw in a big deal or to take back a reasonable player at the trade deadline when team is looking to shed salary. At the same time we were able to draft the players we were planning on drafting anyways once The Mann was gone. So essentially we got a free future first and 2 free seconds, one of which we used as a stash. At this state these fringe moves are the only way we can generate extra value/assets.

I probably would have pushed for it to be only top-16 protected first year, top-10 protected in second year and then top-7 protected. The Hornets are on the rise but they have been on the rise before and fallen flat. There is a decent chance we only get two second round picks out of this. Jones was a very good prospect. He needs 2-3 years, but in 3 years the kid could a better shooting Mitch.

I think this is key. If you are making a trade- like Sexton- would a known player be better, or a future pick who might be something better? I think the future pick is more attractive for other teams. The protection is maybe the best they could do- would rather not have it convey into 2 seconds, but those have sometimes more value to a capped out team.

They acquired a worse asset. It was a really bad trade. Basically they had no options to trade so they made a negative asset move. No downside for the Hornets thats why they did it.

Trade suggests we do have a plan, and decided none of the top guys on the board at 19 and 21 were part of it. No plan would be staying put, either taking a guy you're lukewarm on, or take your guys 5-10 spots higher than necessary.

Not thrilled with the Charlotte trade, but mom sent us to the store and wanted her change back. We bought a gift card.

I don't understand how you see it that way. The alternative would be to use our picks to draft the same players and end up with no extra picks and paying those same player more money than we are paying them now since they would have drafted earlier. We essentially got a discount on the same players we would have drafted anyway and got extra future 1st's and 2nds that we would not have had if we used our original picks. There is no way these trades are anything but a win.
