Mom is in hospice and were saying our good byes. Tender loving woman, Mother, wife’s intelligent sense of humor, gifted artist, educated, and a devote knick fan.

This game was a Sunday afternoon. I was about 12 and family huddled around the 19inch color TV for this game 7. Knicks were up 3-1 and Boston came back to tie it up. Dave Cowens was league MVP winning 68 games that year. Earl played but 25 min per game this series. Same for Willis. Clyde was the man1 Memminger played a key role.
Whole family and friends crowded around the tube and more than glory was a sense of relief winning 94-78. Havelchek still good but this was Cowens and Jo Jo white’s team.
The game ended and she pulled out a Lasagna from the over and we celebrated! All hail Clyde!!
Knicks 4-1 defeat of Lakers was anti climatic the following days. I recall staying up to 1;30 in the morning to watch the clinch on the road. No prime time for finals back then. Game time on east coast was 10:30. It was a week night to boot!
Best Mom story:
she came home one day and told us she saw Clyde get out of his rolls in his fur coat and followed him for about 5 city blocks. She freaking stalked him. She told us she was just mesmerized by his walk, the coat, the hat and the cool! She was a “Clyde Stalker!”
She was also my biggest fan and encouraged my basketball endeavors always. She insisted I get those gold suede Clyde sneakers! Moms are great that way!
Her Brother was a season ticket holders in the championship years and was instrumental in my love for the game and my best MSG moments. He tragically died a few months after they won at the age of 47. She never really got over losing him. The Knicks the next year succumbed to the eventual champ that was Boston. Dave and Willis retired.
We are so lucky to have had her for 84 years and like a true champ she just knew when to hang it up. Proud women thru and thru. Its really tough to go down this journey with her this but its also a gift of sorts. I’m sure I’m not alone with some of you having walked down this road. Great memories to last a lifetime. She’ll take them with her!
Peace……….
