Thibs will do a better job getting the ball in Obi's hands where he can do damage. This year was all about establishing an offense that worked for our best talent (Randle and RJ) and those that could play off them. Obi was in a little bit of a bind.
Obi turned out to be smaller than advertised (I reckon we hoped he had the Amar'e-sized frame to match his game - but alas, not the case!). Dreams of playing him as a small ball center went away when Noel/Taj were ready-made defensively. He didn't look particularly effective in isolation or breaking down his man and getting his own shot.
Where does he go from here? Well, he seemed to get better as the season went along. He looked like a competent rotation bench player by the end of the season. His per 36 numbers project him as a 13ppg/7.5rpg type of player if you use him the same he was used all year.
Assuming Thibs doesn't tear things down, we can look for more of the same with refinements. And if the Knicks can get a top half starting PG, we may get more out of the cast we already have. A good PG should be able to help him with that. The same really could be said for the entire Knicks team. The Knicks were at their best on nights when Payton's shots were falling. That opened things up for everyone.
I think the Knicks would be well served making a big play for CP3 (geez, ~$60m/year for a 35+ year old player?!) or any other elite PGs on the market - it'd have a profound difference on Obi's production. While I'd like to keep giving Quickley a shot at stealing the starting PG spot, if you've got cap space you also have to weigh what you can get especially when you throw in other assets.
