CAA or not, Agents are employed by the players. Money and what’s best for their career is what matters.
Leon and WWW are influential but to what extent? The Kentucky thing was a path for a Hs player to the NBA and for the 5 players a year that was great. Thats was to get them in and up thru the draft. Players still had to put in the work and demonstrate ability.
Now we talking Free agents and its the incumbent team that has the leverage first, then the player.
I read that Tim Hardaway jr, a free agent has the same agent as Luca. If Luca wants Timmy then its seen as “better pay Timmy or his agent will mess Dallas up”. Really? What if Dallas thinks NOrman Powell is better for the team. Luca might think so as well upon further thought. If LUcas agent puts Timmy above Lucas better interests he should get fired. I keep reading this CAA stuff but the logic is sometimes lost on me as if the agent and agency has way too much power.
What is more important than anything is the culture shift with competent people running Knicks. Not the previous CAA connections. For all we know CAA might be pissed Leon and WWW left (they got paid) but Leon might start his own gig again if Knicks don’t pan out.
I’m all for any advantage but Knicks should be looking at the best players for their team regardless of CAA affiliations. I don’t understand how that helps. Brunson has a long relationship with Leon that goes way back. That I get.
Its been mentioned that Frank is being punished for firing CAA 2 years ago. Thats silly, we’d have traded him by now if so. Not saying he sticks but sabotage a career would be a bad look. If anything I see Frank have been given opportunities in this regime.
