If only the stars align for our Knicks this off-season for once, maybe 2 West Coast players decide to come to the Eastern Conference. There are 2 major UFA.

First, a man who wanted to be selected by the Knicks back in 2009, come on over Stephen Curry. PG solved.

Second, a man who may regret leaving the East if his team folds early again, come on down Kawhi Leonard.

PG Curry
SG Barrett
SF Leonard
PF Randall
C Robinson

Bench - Rose, IQ, Burk and/or Bullock, Noel and/or Gibson, Toppin, Vildoza

Fill the rest with Vets who want to ride for the crown, like a Korver if he plays again. Plus draft picks.

Other than the stars not aligning, any reason that team can't win multiple chips? I for one, think not. The Garden would be jumping and Curry the new King of NY. Then retire a previous King to the rafters, in the future, it will be a possible 3 #30 hanging proudly. Go NY Go NY Go!

Nice plan, but there are more problems. Kawhi will almost certainly be FA this summer, and Curry is the FA only next year. Even if by some miracle they want to come to NY, we don't have cap space for both of them even if we get rid of all our free agents, but let alone the way you envisioned us to keep them all.

Realistically, even bringing only Kawhi would be a dream scenario for which the chances are not very good. I have nothing against dreaming, but there is no point in dreaming about something that is not possible even according to the salary cap rules.

A more realistic scenario is I jump in a time machine go back to the night of the 2009 draft and talk the Warriors into not drafting Curry so the Knicks get him the next pick

Both players will just get supermax from their current teams.

I don’t think there’s any option for Curry other than an extension with the Warriors. And Kawhi will almost certainly stay in the Clippers, although there is a small chance that he will want a change if this playoffs doesn't go according to plan. But even if that happens, I’m afraid the Knicks won’t be his preferred location. If that happened and if I had to bet on his new team, I would put the money on Miami.

My dream team for now is:

C Robinson
PF Randle
SF Barrett
SG Beal (2022 free agency)
PG Brunson (sign and trade)

Bench: Quickley, Rose, Burks or Bullock, Toppin, Noel, Gibson, Vildoza, Pinson, draft picks

Mine, with updates.

Don't know why but I just have a thing for Bullock over Burks even though Burks has monster games and is more versatile, just think he will price out for anything over 1 year.

Quite frankly I don't watch much of LaVine but he is younger, bigger and just a bit more dynamic.

Just love Brunson and hopefully as much as Leon does - think that's just destined. Would I give up a draft pick this summer to secure Brunson? Absolutely. What would Dallas want for their 3rd most important player this coming year? It'd be Knicks-Dallas trade redux with leverage going the opposite direction? Watch for more Rick Brunson Knicks coaching opportunity leaks

For this years draft I'd target a big and a wing. Feel like the Knicks could be fluid in this draft (Knicks will have one of #19/20 and #21/22/23) - moving up or back - because of that #32 and how previous draft went. They REALLY feel a guy at say #15-17? It'll get done.

I agree it's unlikely to happen, especially with Klay returning. But Klay is not expected
to be ready to start next season on time, if that gets delayed again which is likely, Steph
might see a reason to move on. He wanted the Knicks in 2009 and the East is easier plus he is
the perfect fit. Still unlikely all falls into place.

If we can land Curry, besides the weather, is Miami a better option than a Curry Randle RJ team?
People are or were saying he'd never leave LA, but now Miami is an option. Maybe that changes
with a better team to offer.

Yes they will cost big money, but we can go over the cap to sign most of our guys. To the rest of
the roster, fill with Vets and draft picks. All unlikely, but a 2nd Clippers collapse, plus the Warriors
being suspect could change that. Not sure Klay makes them elite again, plus AD might feel the same way if
the lake show cr aps the bed. A man can dream. Now let's kick those Hawks in game 2.

I would offer Dallas their first round pick in this draft back for Brunson. Throw in Knox too. I wouldn't be surprised if Brunson goes through his agent to work his way to the Knicks. He's in the driver's seat as an upcoming free agent. The opportunity to become a starting PG for his hometown team that is run by his former agent and becoming a quality team is a great opportunity for him. He's not a star but sort of the Burks of PGs and only 24 years old. Just a well-rounded, tailor made PG for this team. He would be excellent with the assumption that the Knicks will still want to add a top-tier wing star when available too.

Love the take on Bill Simmons Podcast about KP. They joke like his the cool Capt of the football player and most popular dude in. High school until one even better moves in and he all sour. Few other takes about his facial expressions and what misery he projects. Good stuff.
That Dallas is this good with Luca kind of puts them one player away being really relevant. Brunson is important but while he is an improvement on the dog meat we now call Payton, is he the starter material we should pay up for? Like we in Kyle Lowrey 2.0 territory asking the same questions. I know “Uncle Leon” is all that to him but objectively how do we go there and at what Cost?

Winhorst ruminated but would not report last week Scott Perry will be extended. Funny, fans see him as the failed dude from Orlando (he was the assistant for goodness sake) with ties to Mario and Elf. Can’t say for sure who drove those decisions. If he is the dude that landed Randle and pushed the Knicks to NOT trade down instead stayed at the 3 picking RJ the let the love begin!!!! Knicks are more than just Leon, its Scott, Brock aller, and that Vanik guy. Unless Ujiri wants in on this party I’m happy to have them all back. I doubt he’d want to “report” to Leon after running the whole thing in Toronto.

Outlandish thought: He goes to Miami as Riles suddenly retires. They trade Butler to Raptors for Siakim. Jimmy decides he gonna skate out for the MapleLeafs. I’m not calling it but in Rainman fashion I’ll tell y’all I said it first!!!!! “Like I always said.....”.

The dream? Why dream ahead. A year ago this would be it. We still in this dream of 2021! Besides DSjr not morphing into Baron Davis this is a close second111

Brunson will be a free agent (RFA) this summer, a standard procedure for second-round picks who sign 4-year contracts. No one wants to take an option for 4th season and risk with an unrestricted free agency. This way you make him an RFA and wait for someone to offer him something. If he signs an offer sheet, you match the offer, and if he doesn't agree with the other team, you agree with him. Brunson is good and Dallas wants him in the long run. I don’t know why you think they would trade him for 22nd pick.

A trade for the 21st pick would only be if Brunson used his upcoming free agent status as leverage to go to the place he wants to go, and do it ahead of free agency. This is what players do, especially today.

Only the star players or the upcoming UFA can do something like that. What kind of leverage does Brunson have when Dallas has complete control over his future? I mean I like him very much, but Dallas likes him too and I don’t know where the idea that there’s a chance of his coming comes from at all.

Dallas only has 1 more year of control and then he is an UFA. They can decline his $1.8 and he is RFA or take his $1.8 and he will be an UFA. And it will depend on how much Dallas values Brunson over a 3rd star next to Doncic and KP.

IMHO it's not so much as Brunson has control or leverage like an all-star but Dallas don't have a ton of breathing room and there is a lot of opportunity to lose him without getting anything back. Downside risk.

https://www.cbssports.com/nba/news/mavericks-jalen-brunson-outplaying-his-role-this-season-which-could-lead-to-some-tough-decisions-for-dallas/

The issue isn't about if Dallas can afford him; the Mavericks will have Brunson's Bird rights, which will allow them to go over the salary cap if necessary to retain him. The problem becomes how much is Dallas willing to spend on the roster as a whole, which could result in it becoming a luxury-tax team.

As of right now, the Mavericks are projected to have roughly $53 million in cap space the year Brunson becomes a free agent, assuming they pick up the team option on rookie Josh Green, Trey Burke opts in to his player option and Max Kleber's $9 million is guaranteed.

One looming issue is that Doncic will be eligible for a rookie max extension this offseason, which could be worth over $201.5 million over five years if he makes All-NBA again this year. Suddenly, that $53 million in cap space shrinks to about $13 million leftover for Dallas to fill out the rest of its roster, as only six players will be under contract in 2022. That's also not factoring in if the Mavericks decide to re-sign Tim Hardaway Jr., who will be an unrestricted free agent this offseason, and has also been thriving in his bench role.

The point is, Dallas' roster is going to be expensive after this season because of Doncic's looming extension. Also, Kristaps Porzingis is still owed $101.4 million over three years, if he opts into his player option in 2023-24. The Mavericks would probably love to keep Brunson around, and Mark Cuban has professed his fondness of the talented guard on Twitter. But with Dallas still searching for a third star, it becomes about how the Mavs want to use their money.

Is Dallas, a team that notoriously likes to keep the powder dry for future moves, willing to go over the salary cap to chase a third star and keep Brunson? Or, does Brunson become the centerpiece for a trade to bring in that third star. He's owed just $1.8 million next season, so he has one of the best contracts in the league at such a low value. Dallas shouldn't trade Brunson for anything less than an All-Star-caliber player, because of what he provides for this team. Yet if a star becomes available via trade, Brunson would surely be the focal point of the deal as the most enticing young player on this roster outside of Doncic. These aren't urgent matters, and a lot can change between now and the 2022 offseason, but these are all questions on the horizon for Dallas.

I guess you mean they’re targeting next summer (Beal, LaVine), but I’m just pretty sure neither of them will be free agent in the summer of 2022.

I may be wrong, but I don’t think LaVine is going anywhere and will sign an extension with the Bulls. For Beal, I believe he will finally be traded somewhere. This also affects our dream scenario.

teams find a way to move salary for the right move. Clippers over paid to get PG13 but paid nothing for Kawahi. Leonard don’t come unless that deal goes thru.

Knicks get panned for KP trade but if you consider the cap space that did two things:
1. Created an opportunity to get Kyrie and Durant. It was a fail but an opportunity still. You don’t get lucky with it.
2. We signed Randle.

Still it looked bad season one. In hindsight you install Randle into the KP trade its a massive success. Not because KP is not an allstar but because Randle is. Dallas success or failure does nothing unless knicks succeed on the court. Proof? Few fans are upset the Dallas pick is not lottery. Why? We had fun this year. In a perfect world KP is stuck in a Turkish Jail with Janis for smuggling heroin and all kinds of mean and nasty things happen there while the Mecca of basketball rocks on.

With picks and cap space we can afford to move forward and as fans digest disappointments like Frank and Knox if need be. Good teams fail all the time but when they succeed its more apparent. KP was regrettable but Randle cured our pain.
In “TripleSpeak”: Its like when your girlfriend breaks up with you (KP) and despite no benefits at the time it still hurt. Then you start dating a new girl but it just is not great (Randle). Then she discovers she had a food allergy and changes her diet. She loses weight and is feeling so good she is working out and makes a stunning transformation! She finishes her law degree and gets a side gig as a life coach and doing public speaking. Her personality just lights up, her libido is on fire and she credits the relationship as her pivot moment.
Maybe not TripleSpeak as it has a happy ending. Usually there is some food residual reference and regret.
But my point is knicks are happy, have assets and kick ass FO. We as fans cannot fathom the endless possibilities of what might be in store. My Dream? Obi, Kevin’s and frank are great team players, while Randle and RJ get better and better and we keep fining new gems via the draft, FA and thru trades. Sure some will have to get cut from the dream but thats not my job. My job is to pay to be entertained. And I am!

You want to know what is even more wild? Let's say Cuban figures out a deal to land the likes of Beal but that deal involves Dallas draft picks and whatnot.... Because the Knicks own Dallas 2023 pick with 1-10 protection til 2025, they cannot move picks that are further out and are hamstrung til they remove protection or do something else to satisfy the Brunson out of it

So they trade us Brunson for their draft pick flexibility back. Fair trade?

Probably not for Dallas but **** them
