My guess is Randle's relationship with the front office and coaching staff will make it possible to convince him we need the flexibility to bring him some help. And let's be honest, if Randle agrees to an extension this summer he will be taking a discount, because they can't offer him his max.

I would be shocked if he extends now. I get the risk of getting hurt but makes more sense on every level to max him after next year. This year will be our only real shot to use cap space with so many guys in rookie/undervalued deals. Once we breach that cap we never going back. Its MSG... whats important is retaining talent and continuing to build the pipeline

This year add an impact FA
Next year max out Julius

This is a great, great article that outlines all of the possibilities.

https://www.thestrick.land/strick/inside-math-of-julius-randle-future-max-contract-new-york-knicks

Scenario 1: Sign four-year max extension in summer 2021
Scenario 2: Sign five-year max in summer 2022
Scenario 3: Sign two-year max extension in summer 2021, then five-year max in summer 2024
Scenario 4: Sign two-year max extension in summer 2021 with opt out included, opt out of deal, sign another two-year max in 2023 with opt out included, opt out of deal, and sign five-year max in summer 2024
Scenario 5: Sign two-year max in summer 2022 with opt out included, opt out of deal, sign another two-year max in 2023 with opt out included, opt out of deal, and sign five-year max in summer 2024
Scenario 6: Sign two-year max in summer 2022 with opt out included, opt in to deal in 2023, and sign five-year max in summer 2024

There's a difference of retiring a Knick, and finishing your career with the knicks.

Win some titles and get that jersey in the rafters and become a KNICK LEGEND, that's should be the goal... hell, Amare retire a knick.

and for the first time since being a Knick fan (I got hooked on the Ewing/Oak/Xman/MJ/Wilkins squad) I can say with honest confidence that our FO will make the right moves

All but a few say they want to stay. I don’t doubt Randle for saying this and hope its true. Then franchise did everting to put him in this position and he did the work to execute it!!!!
This is a level married young man who seems to be enjoying it. I recall DRose in his prime after his MVP and it was a crushing pressure. He seemed to have a bad aura about him. The scowl was always there. The injuries bought out the worst in him. I’m not judging him but the joy and glory of a 22 year old MVP also was the seed of misery as well. Long list of players who had the world by the balls but not enjoying it. Spree and Ewing had the weight of the world on them. Jordan and Kobe were too far above it to NOT seize the moment. Randle just looks like he is focused on his game and his family. The money is good now and the money will be there. He knows demanding that max might dilute the team and perhaps the label puts it all on him when it gets ugly.
ITs NY, it WILL GET UGLY! This honeymoon will end one day and we’ll be yelling about Thibs being old and stubborn, Leon is camera shy, and WWW will get caught in some Bitcoin under the table ****.

Not happening. He and his agent will be asking for the supermax

I wouldn't expect a discount, but he'll be worth whatever the team has to pay him.

You take the perfect mix of arrogance and inaccuracy. He retired playong in Isreal. Ok, that don't count? I'll give you that. He played 56 games for the Miami Heat. Before that? 23 games for the Dallas Mav's.

Whats your point here anyway? If your going to be a dick, at least don't be lazy and be accurate with a good "gotcha". YOu understand Randles inner motivations and thoughts that he is does not want to win chips and be a LEGEND? YOu have a portal into his mind?

Randle qualifies for supermax under the terms of the CBA. He is going to ask for it

Which of the criteria did he meet?

Who is eligible to sign a supermax contract?

Very few players qualify for a supermax contract. First, only a player that has (or will have) completed eight years of NBA service by the end of his current contract is eligible to sign a supermax deal, which can only be offered by the team that drafted him or traded for his rookie contract.

Then, a player must meet one of the following three criteria.

Be named to an All-NBA team in the most recent season or both seasons before it
OR, be named NBA Defensive Player of the Year in the most recent season or both seasons before it
OR, be named NBA MVP in any of the three previous seasons

The article says “7 or 8 years” by the second to last or last year of the contract. This is Randle’s 7th season in the nba. If Randle makes all-NBA team either this year or next he qualifies. Considering 2 spots on all nba last year were taken by Lebron and AD who this year didn’t even make the playoffs (they’re in the play-in) I’d say Randle has a realistic shot of getting it this year

He has not been named so he has not qualified. You speak in absolute terms to something that has yet to occur. Use a simple “if he makes it” or “I think he should qualify” then you simply offer the statement as your opinion. Nothing wrong with that btw.
