Cloud Nine

“This Knicks team makes me enjoy watching basketball again.
Confidence and camaraderie personified.”

-Earl Monroe

He ain’t lyin.’

“... the Knicks—the Knicks!—are a reliably refreshing and invigorating watch: a collection of reclaimed talents and improving youngsters that plays smart, hard, physical, and disciplined basketball.

This Knicks team isn’t great. It’s not a juggernaut on par with a superteam like the Nets, Clippers, or Lakers. But a team doesn’t have to be great to be special. It just has to have something about it—something ineffable but undeniable—that sparks joy. For some teams, it’s a style of play that evokes and epitomizes the elegance of a beautiful game. For this one, it’s the unwavering focus, concentration, intensity: an eagerness to fight in a phone booth, a willingness to eat a haymaker if it means landing one in return.

With every hardscrabble performance and borderline unbelievable win, this Knicks team is revealing itself as that kind of special—the kind that connects with you, and that makes you want to connect with it. Teams like that are rare, especially for this franchise, and you’d better celebrate them while they’re here. It’s spring—a time of renewal, teeming with possibility. And all around—improbably, finally—walls are tumbling down in New York City..”

-Dan Devine, The Ringer

Nice read there. Even though I don’t really expect it, have that feeling that an upset is always a possibility.

You know I gonna spin wit it

The “Hateful” national media has the knicks as darling of the league for now.

It’s hard not to root for this team. And Julius is such a sincere, hardworking, likeable guy.

"New York - We here"

This team is just that. Not a collection of personalities and glittery history, just a hungry group of vets and yoots that get after it, every single possession. On both sides of the ball. Even if it's a display of what Clyde deems "teflon D", they still get a hand up and make an almost deranged run and jump at every three the opposition takes. No matter how far open they are when they take it. I can imagine Thibs making life extremely miserable and uncomfortable for anyone during film sessions whose lowlights include not at least making a run out to the perimeter instead of just standing there and watching the threes fly overhead. (I'm looking at you, Knox).

Plane to the gym. Late night shooting sessions. Breaking into the gym on days off. We talkin bout practice? Practice???
You dayum straight we are!

Saturdays broadcast by ESPN. It was a love fest and they were playing “Move on up” by Curtis Mayfield. Other tunes were for sure bringing up the 70’s and they nastalgia. Spikes Lees soundtrack to “Crooklyn” and the scene where mom yelling at kids but they return “We watching the Knicks”.........Great grouping of songs BTW. Pull it on Spotify or any service you use.
I can’t hear Mayfields superb soundtrack to “Superfly” and not see Earl spinning in traffic and “Dancing Harry” putting the whammy on......
Clyde in slow motion taking a mid range jumper with the grace of a dancer........
This is the “Knicks feel good Era” to my youth. It was not just the games, there was a sound track to it. NY was a dirty gritty place. Social and Racial tensions abound but the music and the knicks kept it together. At least in some of our worlds.
