We are currently only .5 game out of the 5th seed. Not only would the Knicks avoid that silly play-in tournament they would avoid sizers, nets or bucks in rd 1. Instead they would probably face either the Celtics or Hawks - both winnable

I agree from a match-up standpoint you want to avoid the Big3 and face Atlanta if you had a choice in the matter.

Actually the 4th seed would be ideal with home court advantage if we're being greedy

BUT

Does the team have enough left in the tank to finish 4th/5th?

I would like Randle to be healthy and well-rested going into the post-season.
And this is the most games RJ and our rookies have played.
It's great that Reggie and Alec are stepping up and the Center platoon have stepped up as we need to take pressure off Randle and RJ.

Derick Rose being able to be the third option on nights where Reggie and Alec aren't sharp is key

Everything in moderation. Even moderation.

I was thinking about it and Randle is literally the only lure on the team that has no legit substitute role-wise. Burks gives us fantastic depth behind Bullock and RJ... and even as a PG.

Yes, let’s be greedy, let’s aim for 4th seed. Barring injury to Randle, I see us having a realistic shot of going 11-5 over our final 16 games. 8-8 would be pretty safe. Yeah, a bit of optimism, but the games that look most imposing are Phoenix, Denver (tho are they really better without Murray?), Clippers. The other games aren’t gimmes, but I think we’re relatively even talent or better than the rest.

Atlanta: we have a tie breaker over them. Their coach g must be pretty special, as they’ve gotten wins without TY, Hunter, and Reddish. Heck, Gallo is also banged up as usual.

Miami: We lose the tie breaker- but they basically lost Olynyk for nothing with Oladipo out. I think their trip to the finals trip last year was a bit of a mirage and a series of really fortunate matchups & injuries.

Boston: Knicks are 1-1 vs Boston with a deciding game the latest game of the season. It’ll be lucky if we’re vying for 6th/7th, and a strange game if we’re settled in 7th and 8th, with a play-in game ahead regardless.None of the players the Celtics acquired at the trade deadline have been getting mine lately - the most important of that bunch is Fournier who has been out for 5 games or so on COVID-19 protocol. Tatum and Brown are tough for us when they’re both in the game.

We got 16 games left and 10 of them are winnable games against teams with similar records. If we can win at least 8 of them I think we stand of chance of going straight to playoffs.

We would have to win on tie breakers
We lost the tie breaker to Miami already

We have Atlanta, Charlotte twice, Boston once in the remaining schedule.
They are must wins.

15 games left and I didn't count Dallas as a winnable game so 10 games are still ours for the taking.

4 games above .500 with 14 games left to go. 9 of them are winnable!

That last game of the season against Boston is shaping up to be a battle for the 5th seed.

I see Boston loss tonight so we are tied in wins and losses. I guess they are a head of us due to tie breakers. Thinking about it, sixth seed is not a bad position to be in cause it avoids the Nets until the conference finals. the Nets are only caring about being healthy for the playoffs and are favored to win it all. A Net/Knick conf final would have the city rockin. I know, I'm getting ahead of myself, but a fella can dream.

Randle isnt being leaned on in the 4th quarter as much. Hope it stays that way. The best chance of getting past the first round (and beyond) is Randle having something left in the tank, at the end of the season.

Hope Burks and Mitch are back in the rotation soon. If we're at full strength by the playoffs. Who knows how far we can go? We have a great mix of experience, and youth. Thibs keeping a tight playoff rotation in the past (what I recall) wore down some players to the point of needing medical attention. Cut their run short.

Its somewhat comforting to know that Frank, and Knox, are still getting minutes here, and there. They may not have a substantial role in the playoffs. At least they're getting an opportunity for more minutes. And taking some of the load of their teammates.

I hope Frank, Knox, get PT in the playoffs. If for no other reason than throwing fresh bodies at the other team. Believe that will get us further than a tight rotation.

5th seed would be awesome because I dont believe we've been seeded that high this century. I will be pysched If we avoid the play-in. Any seed that does it.

Fewer games to play could be crucial to the team's success. The less games Rose has to play, to make the playoffs the better. We will need his experience.

We were actually the 2 seed the last time we made the playoffs in 2013.

This is not the time to cruise, we need to keep playing hard and smart. My prediction was 37 to 41 wins, and it seems like thats what were on pace for..4th seed with home court in the 1st round

Wow, dont remember that team being seeded that high.

Suggesting that I want the team to "cruise" for the rest of the season is not even close to what I actually wrote. Not making Randle play every minute of the 4th quarter isnt "cruising". Neither is finding a few minutes here and there, for Knox and Frank. Your way isnt any smarter or harder. Its more taxing. Thats foolish.

Are you suggesting they should open up a 12 man rotation to give Knox and frank a few minutes? Frank had 3 fouls in 4 minutes last game, making it so easy for the coach to yank him

The reason we are where we are is because of the TIGHT ROTATION, that's something No coach we had has done since MDA and Woodson (the last time we made the PO).

The team hasn't been practicing much, so thats a huge help in terms of resting.

If guys don't earned minutes, then where's the accountability..

You Rest guys when your spot is solidify.

We had a tight rotation with Woodson when players like Camby/Rasheed/KT couldnt finish the season because they were spent. Most retiring after the season ended.

D'Antoni ran Amar'e until the wheels came off. Started breaking down after half a season. Thats what happens when the rotation is too tight.

I am suggesting that Thibs not repeat the same mistakes that got him bounced from his last 2 teams. Not enough trust in his bench, being one of them. Relying too much on his starters. Certain players. Hoping Thibs has learned what hasnt worked in the past. Looks that way.

You have even less success playing more than 10 guys, just asked Rambis, Fisher, Fizdale, JH, and Miller.

I agree that playing Randle heavy minutes is a risk, but Knox and OBI certainly haven't earn extra minutes, and in order for randle to rest you need one of them to step up.

Why argue with the dude 1248?
Key phrase by Gustove was “I hope”. Did not say “I took Thibs should”.....
And why would you not hope Thibs can blend in more players AND SUCCEED? Cuz you made some big man prediction as if you knew things? You’ve proven inept in so many ways your winning prediction goes nowhere to increase your cred.
