At the end of last season, who would have believed that the knicks this year would have a better record than all these teams:

Miami (NBA finals last year)
Boston (strong young team)
Toronto (champs 2 years ago)
GSW (super team together again)
Houston (how furious their implosion has been)
Atlanta (upcoming young team)
!!

Not me. That’s why it’s crazy we reached this point and people who have not been following our rebuild plan for years try and ruin it with unnecessary signings. We went from lucky to win 20 games to being on pace for a 41 win season in a 82 game schedule. Playoff birth was always exceeding expectations this year and now that casuals notice we have talent now we are getting pressure frm casuals to win a round or two in the playoffs or bust.

For the first time this front office hasn’t folded to the non sense and insane media pressure and are doing it right.

We are 50 percent through a rebuild if we continue doing it correctly!!

The rebuild officially started with ntlikina and kp draft year!

Yes 4 years! We have a few busts possibly and a kp princess 👸 slight (road bump)

But if we do this the right way the Knicks can be good until 2033

If you do it the wrong way we may win a championship 2 years from now or not win a championship until 2045

Choose wisely

Giving Phil any credit? Sacrilege! But I agree. And dare we give Perry any credit -- or Dolan?!!!! But the Rose FO has taken the baby steps from Phil and Perry to a leap forward. Including not succumbing to the mindless pressure to cash it in for an over the hill mega contract. Stick with the plan guys please.

Still time left on the season. Miami worries me, not only because they have improved, but because we have yet to show we can beat them.

I honestly want to know what Phil did right. Really. Please make a list of the baby steps. And list something other than "didn't trade away 1st round draft picks for people like Bargs..." And how do you state the bold over and over again while dismissing the Noah signing with a wave of the hand? I'm guessing you loved the Melo contract as well?

I am earnestly wondering what Phil did right.

Phil get's an F.

Most important thing any organization can do is hire the right coach. He choose Fisher, who was not ready and was dealing with his own personal bull****. The Noah contract was a joke even at 2 years let alone four. Courtney Lee types you can always overpay for one year you never give a role player multi year deals unless you are close to championship. Frank was a miss, that's another strike. He started a big public fight with his best player devaluing his trade potential. The Tyson Chandler trade was horrible and added more salary, more years and no value. Smith and Shumpert, they got nothing for as well. All in all a train wreck.

The only win was KP. He could have drafted Justice Winslow which would have been a mistake. Had he been able to trade KP for a big Celtics package or Booker perhaps things would have been different.

Perry - C grade

Kevin Knox - F
Mitchell Robinson - A+
Coach - F
Reggie Bullock - B
Julius Randle - A
Portis/Ellington/Payton - D-
Marcus Morris - C
KP Trade - C+ (Could have unloaded Lee for a future 1st and Frank to ORL, traded Hardaway for an expiring, then moved KP solo for a better package)

Too much is made of the Clippers pick, did it help us get Quickly, yes. But, people were giving First Rounders away to take on salary and the veterans they brought in were all overpaid and didn't really contribute

Knox is not a F.. he can knock down a wide open corner 3 lol (40 percent)

RJ averaged 14ppg with rookie 🔑 🔑
Knox averaged 13ppg with the rookie 🔑 🔑
Toppin I didn’t look (afraid) lol but I’m guessing about 5 ppg with the 🔐 lol

Unlike rj knox fell off his second year. Still think there is a monster role player deep down in Knox lol
Ever since Zion snatched the ball from him he regressed 😅

It was just pretty season but if you watch Knox confidence before the Zion event he was aggressive and playing like he was the top dog out there. Knocking down 3s possession after possession.

Grade D-

The prior regimes sucked. My point was just that 4 years ago the Knicks started this rebuild.

Marcus Morris was literally our best player last season. Not the best fit but we owe a chunk of our wins to his shooting.

The Future is Bright!

Phil was on the right track with a KP/Rolo frontcourt. They were already one of the best frontcourts in the league. Some fans forget that part. Phil preached "slow and steady wins the race". Then he traded Rolo for Rose(1.0) who said from the jump, he was in NY to get paid.

And signing Noah to a deal that the team is still paying for. Who made it clear early on he was in NY to get wasted.

That's where it all went wrong. Signing Melo with an NTC (only one of 3 players in the league) sure didnt help.

I don't expect this discussion to bear any fruit. You and other posters here pretty much make my point. There is no pointing out anything positive about Phil without an immediate shootdown with a negative. I have acknowledged the negatives elsewhere. Since this is simply a sports message board I don't restate my thesis with footnotes on every post. I do not wave off the Noah signing. I do not wave off Phil's half speed performance and arrogance. Yet you wave off not trading first rounders which was positively a revolution. He also drafted KP who was a great pick but unpopular (remember the boos?). Frank was pretty good too imo. He wanted Steve Kerr and ball movement and defense. And Perry was included in the baby steps. Cap space. KP trade which so far has allowed us to sign Randle, draft IQ with more to come. And yes not trading #1's (do not understand why this is not significant to you).

So yahoos listen up. I am not saying Phil did a good job. Not at all. Or that Perry is Red Auerbach reincarnated. Phil did a bad job and Perry is an incomplete but has done more good than bad that has been major in the current resurgence. I just find it tiresome to see everything painted with the same broad brush again and again. Yep, that's my axe to grind here. How unique of me on this board.

Mook, then we traded for what became IQ. Gotta give Perry props.
Perry gets all the hate for FIz but not Mills? If Perry the GM for Fiz, he was the GM for Thibs.
But, but, but.......

End of the day, knicks hired and fired Fiz, and Knicks hired Thibs. Dolan wrote the checks for both. Blame and Praise???
Payton for what we paid for him is not bad. We can go on and on. Thibs regime bought him back. If Thibs wanted him gone, he was gone. So what do we do with that?
Bottom line is when PHil came we stopped mortgaging the future of instant mediocrity.
Let’s just say “Knicks” and not lay blame or praise based on our agenda’s.

First off, I'm not even addressing Perry.

In several instances, Phil wasn't ABLE to trade off first rounders. I find pointing that out over and over again even more severely tiresome. And when you're spending your tenure losing historically, not trading first rounders isn't revolutionary, it's pretty much GM 101.

So Mr. Au Contraire, I get your axe to grind. Say something different to be different. While not really being a Phil fanboy. Check please.

HI. My name is Nalod and I am a “Phil fanboy”.
Group: Welcome. The first step to recovery is to recognize reality.
Nalod; yes, thank you. I’m a fan, but recognize he did a bad job. Can I still be a fan? Appreciate his coaching achievements?
Group: Not on the UK. He did a bad job and was the architect of our Bulls pain. You should have cut that tie long ago!
Nalod: I hated the Bulls but respected what he was doing. Again in LA he proved to be above it all.
Group: no, blame is assigned to those in the seat. Media is to blame. Fans are to blame. YOU NALOD ARE TO BLAME!!!!
Nalod: Yes I see. Did Thibs rush back Mitch and thats why he broke his foot?
Group: Yes. But we have to wait until we are under .500 before we do the Thibs burnout blame thing. stop deflecting!
Nalod: But thats what we do. Every player must be assigned a prototype and then we hindsight question.
Group: Why do you think Marv is not here anymore? He is smarter than us. You know this yet you still stay?
Nalod: IM ashamed of being a Phil Fanboy! I should burn the books and forget.
Group: Yes! Oak is good, Ewing was a warrior, Bernard was a god, Melo sold jersey’s so he must have been great, h20’s contract is all to blame, and Spree was a angel! “Starks” the dunk is all you need to know about himself and don’t look to close at Charlie Wards career and you’ll be fine.
Nalod: Thank you. Time for my meds.

Funny, others are saying what I’m saying but you’re going all sophomore on me. Cool, I have a nemesis here. But you’ll have to play by yourself Mr. Snarky. I mean after that comment.

Three weeks later....

Hi, my name is Nalod and it's been 21 days 4 hours and 16 minutes since I last said "He didn't trade away first rounders"
Group: Hi Nalod! Good on ya, mate!
Nalod: I must say, just admitting that I had a problem with the rings red glare supporting my ability to defend Phil's tenure here has been like a breath of fresh air.
Group: Amen, brother! Jesus, that sounds like a song!
Nalod: Although I do feel at times that he did do some good things...
Group: INTERVENTION!!!
Nalod: No, not the water board again! I'm sorry! I'm sorry!
Group: Okay, look brother, no one's here to condemn your love of Phil's winning coaching ways...
Voice yelling from the back: But the coat-hangered arsehole couldn't win with just Pippen, could he?
Group: Shut up, jrod!
Nalod: I truly appreciate that folks, I feel I'm approaching a real break through on my passive-agressive Phil-love/Melo-hate.
Group: Your time will come, brother, Just give it time and honesty.
Nalod: I truly believe all this incessant losing (even during seasons of winning) has further exacerbated my condition... if only it had worked out with KP...
Group: Let it out. It's the key to healing.
Nalod: Why! Why the NTC??? That fat, hat-wearing Mooby! I hate him! I hate his smirk, his iso, his cheerio smelling wife, exwife, whatever she is ...
Group: Center your focus on the Portland bench. He's sitting on the bench, forget the minutes he plays, just breathe, Nalod, breathe...
Nalod: Okay, okay. If only Randle didn't just bully his way into those short fading jumpers... RJ, playing bully ball... I hate it! I hate the unconscious references!!! Don't these people know what they're saying??!?!??
Group: Just remember the mantra.... Dolan hired him, Dolan hired him, Dolan hired him...

Wow, this thread went off the rails!
It was supposed to be feel good about how the Knicks have overachieved versus some of the NBA's better teams and it has devolved into Knicks Anonymous meetings about Phil Jackson.
Why are we talking about Phil Jackson again?

Because Phil Jackson was talking about Phil Jackson. The narrative needs to be refreshed! History will rewrite itself! All will be forgiven in time!
