I'm sure he relished the opportunity to settle in one place and also be the guy who got Indiana on the right path. Always... always remember: Less is less. More is more. Not taking anything away from Woodson; he's been a good NBA head coach and I'm sure he will be fine on the practice court and during games, but a lot of your success in college begins and ends with recruiting. Recruiting is a tireless and ruthless job; hopefully he hires young, up and coming assistant coaches with high school and AAU connections in the midwest. He would be best served grabbing an AAU or High school coach from the Indiana area. The fact that Indiana hired Woodson tells me that the Indy job isn't as coveted as they think it should be. Surprised they couldn't get a young, up an coming college coach to take that job. Not only does the tournament increase the draft stock of players, but it does the same with coaching. Andy Enfield had a great run in the tournament at Florida Gulf Coast back in 2013 which helped him land the USC job. But like I said, maybe none of the coaches they identified wanted the job.... |

Top recruits are either one and done or now can go Gleague. Up and comers don’t carry the cred of alumni and to some extent players with NBA aspirations. Woodson can go into a recruits living room and talk about the glory days of IU, and this his NBA cred help players get to the big show. Woodson has some very good credentials having either been head coach or assistant with some heavy hitters. Maybe WWW an help both Kentucky and Indiana? |

Recruiters are digging up every bit of dirt on their competitors during their presentations to players. Their likely telling half truths to one recruit while going after a higher ranking guy who plays the same position. Then there's the under the table compensation packages. Plus, Indiana has lost it's luster, so they have to dig in and try to find under the radar guys. That means more travel. Everything is out in the open with the NBA. Advanced scouts pretty much have the same information that their counterparts on other teams have. Always... always remember: Less is less. More is more. More is better and twice as much is good too. Not enough is bad, and too much is never enough except when it's just about right.
