Ewing and Dolan talked it out. No beef there. Done. Spike gotta bring how he has Ewings phone number and jump in this. I thought spike was wrong to make a public spectacle of it all. He jumped in and went on TV to do this thing. Love this movies and his knick persona but this “I’m a star and I don’t have to play by the rules” is a bad look. Most arenas have VIP entrances for higher paying seats. There are security risks having non employees in areas as well as insurance protocols. YOu think if Spike gets hit by a fork lift carrying food in the loading dock he won’t sue the **** out of MSG? Now I’m not saying security should be a dick about things but Spike was asked before to use the another entrance.
To me stars can be very generous when they appreciate people doing their jobs and act normal. Does being Patrick Ewing entitle you to red carpet treatment in MsG? Yeah. All the time and to every person? Maybe Ewing should show a little leadership to his players and staff and not be a diva when inconvienced? Oak has to chime in publically again and slam Dolan for offering Ewing a Gleague gig? First off its non of his business and its not like Ewing got any other offers. Or we just talking about MSG and security protocol in a college tournament? Did Ewing really after a win distract the moment from his kids and make it about him and whine about having to go thru security? That bothers me the most, coach make it about him. I watched his statements and I’m sure there was more about the game but thats not what the sporting world sees. I thought Ewing could have make it more humorous. Then spike goes on about “he was hot about it”. ALl teh while it was reported Dolan got on the phone with Patrick and they were cool about it. And lets be real, Ewing in 15 years was a high maintenance star who was not always easy to get along with and then it was him that wanted the money then wanted to leave. I thought they worked it all thru and He has been honored many times by the organization and welcomed back frequently.
If you want to be a bitch then do it in private. Lets put it this way, when a star is gracious and acknowledges the efforts of “Little people” its a good look. If a near 60 year old former knicks great coaching a not so high profile Georgetown in the middle of a pandemic who is having a great run pulls attention from his kids to his complaint security inconvienced him then I’m a bit put off by that.
Having money to buy tickets like spike can does not entitle you to be an *******. Being former NBA tough guy does not entitle you to get into fights in Vegas, get caught cheating at gaming table, and being a loud mouth dick amongst other fans at knick games.
Ewing can feel disrespected but maybe not make it a public spectacle and use the influence to rectify it privately.
Good perspective on this issue. I think the sentiment and general feelings about the Knicks are changing, but more importantly has not changed yet. Fast forward a year or two, where the team has shown a consistent track record with stability and winning. I bet had the Ewing situation happened and even Spike’s situation....it would not be that big of a story...because the “team” would have the benefit of the doubt and it would not immediately default to Dolan...
Spikes situation is different your a customer...albeit high profile....a customer nonetheless....Ewing was an employee that was the face of the franchise and city at one point...I speculate that Dolan has treated him with respect since...why make public “LOL KNICKS” spectacle? Also, with COVID restrictions and fans coming back security probably has to be a bit more vigilant. This really could have been straightened out with a call..before anyone knew ...simple
Not saying this to say that Dolan never had dirty hands on things ...but not everything including potential mistakes can be traced to directly to the owner...
