Hope everyone is having a great Friday! I’m a student at NKU and I wanted to learn more about everyone’s feelings on our rivals and why we feel this way towards them. With the help of message board members beginning in 2014, we—the students and professors of the Know Rivalry Project—began answering this question and others related to rivalry in the NBA. No one knows the rivalries of the Knicks better than this message board community. Please help us update and expand our results to ensure that the New York Knicks are included by taking 9 minutes to complete our newest survey:

https://umassamherst.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_3FdJ8eN2EgFCfCB?grpID=1364&mbsrc=mb

Our previous results have been featured in numerous sports media outlets, as well as the Wall Street Journal and New York Times. You can view those results, links to media coverage, and learn more about us at our KnowRivalry.com website BUT we’d prefer you didn’t until you completed the survey via the link above… we don’t want to influence your opinions provided in the survey.

We use the Qualtrics online survey software for data collection. This academic research has been approved by two US universities’ Institutional Review Boards (IRB) and it poses no risks to respondents. You’ll find more information on the disclosure agreement that is required to start the survey. There are plenty of other teams you can look into as well on the site if you had other favorite teams. Survey aside I would like to know your personal feelings about your rivals. Thank you for helping us to include the Knicks by participating and please share this with any other fans that may also help.

I know I am a guest on here and I read some of the "Welcome and Forum Etiquette Reminder" and I didn't see anything that involved my post. I'm just trying to start a discussion about the Knicks rivals. If I did anything wrong forgive me and please let me know. Thank you

This is pretty easy to answer. Celtic and 76ers fans are hellspawn who need to be eradicated for the sanctity and safety of the world. I don't really consider myself a Knicks fan. I'm more like a crusader defending you and everyone you know from the wickedness that's slowly spreading from those areas of the country.
Also, good timing in this thread. I'm currently working on a deal that will include 95% of these malcontents for Devin Booker. Most of these dudes will be rocking Suns jerseys by the time I'm done.
Always... always remember: Less is less. More is more. More is better and twice as much is good too. Not enough is bad, and too much is never enough except when it's just about right. - The Tick

Seriously, the Knicks haven't won a championship in almost 50 years. Havent been a serious contender this century. So, many long time fans spell the word with a small r. That might change in the next few seasons.

Have to be a worthy rival before there is a rivalry.

The Nets suck. Always. Doesn't matter what our Knick record is, what level of rebuild we're at, or what dumpster fire level of big names land in Brooklyn, or Queens or Hoboken or Hackensack or New Brunswick or Long Island or wherever they happen to play now, or how close they get to almost winning a chip.

The Nets suck. Interminably. Locational bragging rights. The annoying little red-headed step brother.

Historically, the Bulls, Celtics are probably the most hated for someone who's been a Knick fan since the late 1960's. Understand most of the purists on here want meaningfulness before rivalries are espoused. Eff that.

For those of us living in New Jersey, Sixers fans, like almost everything Philly-related, are annoying pee-brains, but there really isn't much of a history there. Plus, the Process was too amusing to observe to really care about them after awhile.

Once upon a time the Celtics. As mentioned the Knicks have been so bad for so long it's hard to even consider bragging rights. That said, I have personal animosity for the Nets, Mavs, and Lakers, either because they are "Super Friends" teams or that we have their draft pick and they have Putzingis.

For me it was once very clear who the enemy was. Riley, Hardaway, Mourning. That was a rivalry if I ever witnessed one. Also the Pacers. Reggie Miller and Rick Smits. That's when I became a fan. Those were rivalries because we had to get through those teams in the way to ECF. Year in and year out. To me that's a prerequisite

We may not like some teams as fans but does that make for a Rival? Why? Geographical perhaps. THe nets are cross town, I get it. A Turf war. Pride. but Nets are starphuched fabricated So they don’t care about Knicks or teh City. Division rivals are suppose to be becuase they are obstacles in playoff. Knicks played Bullets like 6 year in a row. They did not like each other.
Me not liking a team does not make for a rival.
KP might be a rival to fans but only Frank played with him and may not like him.
We have not played important games in many years. A team that denies you glory can grow to a rival.
We have had many in the past. Celtics in the late 60’s had to be defeated for us to win. Then with Cowens they returned and beat us in seventy four.
Bulls with Jordan. Riley’s Heat. We had beef with them. Now teams come to MSG because they love it.
Fuck that, they should dread it! Maybe things will change.

Rivalries are developed in the playoffs. Since we have not been in several years, we have no real rivals right now. Hopefully, we can get good enough to develop some new rivalries. the only rivalry we have right now is probably the Nets.
