Id advise to go back on youtube and check out the toughness and heart of the 90s Knicks. It was a different game back then incredibly physical basketball--almost a different game. Many games final scores barely reached 90 points. Thats why its hard to com[are players from different era. But in what we can have today--there is a reasonable toughness with our current group. Far from the 90's but an air of pride not really seen in 20+ years.

I much enjoyed those slugfests of the 1990s. I understand that the game of basketball is about scoring, but have an even greater appreciation of drama, competition and battle of wills, which make for a more intense emotional experience as a fan. I think the Knicks' finals against Houston, and the battles with Miami and Indiana were far more exciting than the incessant Jordan-jocking of the same era. But the majority of fans wanted something more accessible and easy to digest and the "final winning shot against Utah" fit that objective, push-off or not. Kinda surprising why teams even bother to compete, why not turn the NBA into a more massive Globetrotters show?

So im old enough to remember 80s and 90s basketball. The problem is I didn't have enough patience to watch an entire game in the 80s. And when I did, I always fell asleep. There was no entertainment watching 2 team slug out a 65-66 defensive half court game, as a middle schooler in the 80s... Hated watching it, loved playing it. Now I love watching today's game, but hate playing it. I'm old and young enough to play in both eras. And that 3pt stretch the floor. Now the logo shot is just comical. Great to watch, but in a game, and u wide open. Instead of passing it, I watch my man shoot a logo shot, like itz a good shot. U yell.....no..no..no...but when it goes in....its yes...yes...yes.

I agree briggs....the knicks today have that combination of old school bigs (Randle) and new school guards (IQ).

That your wife who I recall you said was a nurse? If so, what area she work in? Was Covid 19 experience particularly rough on her?

80's-90's - follow your shot, you ****in moron. You realize you're going to miss 6 or 7 times out of 10, right??
Jordan postmodern era - Stand still and pose your follow through

80-90's - Oak makes a living drawing charges
Jordan postmodern era - "charge free zone"; "Where's my effing foul??" Drawing a charge is some arcane number under "Hustle Stats"

80's-90's - You drive the lane, you better have a move, or you are taking your life and your career in your hands
Jordan postmodern era - DLee Defense = Get out of camera frame as fast as possible. And for the love of ****, keep your hands down.

80's - 90's - Handchecking is in vogue, elbowing in in vogue, blood and bandaids and stitches are in vogue. Full court press before the 4th quarter (Jordan postmodern era asks: WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT???) Beat shooters into submission, make them run you through 14 picks and screens before they can get a shot off. If all else fails, stick a finger into their eye.
Jordan postmodern era - The elite "watch and frown and shake your head, roll your eyes" defense. Maybe make a run over to them and wave, but make dayum sure you don't touch them while they shoot from anywhere and everywhere.

phuck man I think if I ran that hard right now a whole body part would fly off

It was a well earned victory. Only the post race plate of beans I ate fought off the depression that follows a defeat like that.

I became a Knick fan in 1990. I didnt follow basketball as a kid, but had friends that did, played a bit and knew the game. I was playing street fighter in an arcade with a TV and that team was playing. I was like these guys are savages and I instantly loved them.

Want to see a crazy stat about that team? Look at the games played and the minutes.
https://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/NYK/1992.html

Starters were Ewing, Oak, Xman, Wilkins, Jackson with Starks, Mason and Greg Anthony off the bench. That was the 8 man rotation and all 8 of those guys played 82 games except Mark Jackson who played 81 (lets face it, he was a *****)

There isn't a single rivarily in the NBA , and that's mostly because of player movement. Rivalries start in the playoffs, and how often do you see the same teams match up in the playoffs for 2,3,4 yrs in a row.

Excellent fact check!
He could get a partial pass for diving into chairs and following up his own misses, which has been documented on here ad nauseum!

Very true.

And even if you did, many of those matchups have been reduced to whoever hoists up the most 3’s.

Oh well... still beats the hell out of hockey!

Absolutely no rivalries. It does make it dull. Heat-Knicks, Bulls-Pistons, Celtics- Lakers, Sixers-Celtics, Sixers-Lakers. Pacers-Knicks. Now it’s stale without.
