In the preseason the Knicks took 282 free throws (and made 208), while their opponents took 219 (and made 165). When was the last time we had a Knick team that actually beat their opponents by getting to the line? Sweetney and Ariza (both reserves) led the team in free throw attempts and these kids are only gonna get better as they develop

Good, 16 freethrow attempts a game was getting frusterating.

Yeah definitely, and also hopefully this means we will get more respect from the refs. FT's are essential since the knicks teams of the past few years have never gone to the line much but ironically are excellent FT shooters overall as a team.

This is an incredible stat ... and one I wasn't aware of. Thanks for pointing it out. I wonder what won loss %s are for teams that should more than 25% more FT's than their opponents. I'd bet extremely high. Their ability to draw fouls, along with their rebounding and energy will make it hard to keep these guys off the floor.

give the ball to sweetney. he'll get to the line at least 1/2 the times he touches the ball. down the stretch of games, despite him being in his 2nd year, get him the ball and get to the line. he should be the 1st option in the 4th quarter if we have a lead. he has a long way to go before he has a bigtime impact but i think he's ready to shoulder some of that burden right now.

ariza will get his just on pure hustle. he shouldn't be an option on offense yet b/c defenders will challenge him to shoot all night. he can work on that next summer. for now, he should just go after all lose balls and play defense, especially in the passing lanes like spree used to.
