Beyond Luka, I do not see any FA in the foreseeable future capable of changing the fortunes of a franchise. And since this season we have chosen the way of honorable mediocrity, no help is coming through the draft for us anymore.
So, I believe the Knicks should avoid large and expensive signings this coming offseason and keep their gunpowder dry to sign Luka in 2022 when we have about $33m in cap space. Then work out a deal to bring back Robinson and Randle. And sign RJ to a long term contract the following season. With a roster of Luka, Randle, Mitch, RJ and Quickley, the Knicks would be primed to contend.
I do not see any other path to contention for us otherwise.
And why not? I bet the Slovenian community in NY is bigger than in Texas.
And it would be even sweeter to see KP play out the remaining two years of his contract in Dallas all alone, while Luka rips the league apart in NY.

Luka is on rookie scale contract and in 2022 he will be RFA. In other words, it’s as if he is not even FA.

Honorable mediocrity allows our youth to establish themselves in this league and it lays the foundation of success. That's what attracts free agents. That avenue becomes available, hopefully, as the top draft picks become out of reach. You never know with the new system tho

Not happening. Even if we agree to take on KP’s horrible contract. That’s not how Cuban operates

Just because one cannot see a path does not mean there is not one. Our “honorable mediocrity” is mostly at the behest of other things besides savior phucking either from the draft or super duper FA’s. RJ is as important as any piece we have and he was taken 3rd. If its exciting enough for some thats not the proof. Its the teams record.
Randle was a FA signing. The best kind actually. One that surged beyond his contract. Quick is as impactful as any lottery pick in his short sample. Sorry if Obi after 35 games is not a revelation. Few rookies are.
Luca I seriously doubt passes on generational wealth because the Slovian community is bigger in NYC. For all his shortcomings I can’t fault KP for wanting his money even while rehabbing on his ACL. Fact was the Mav’s were willing to do what knicks were not. THis is a business.
Knick fans sometimes think all players want NY and its our god given entitlement that the NBA is there to serve our deserving fan base.

Luka has to be miserable in Dallas, before any other moves are made. By anyone. History has shown that contracts mean little in the NBA if said superstar wants out.

Im guessing if KP gets past the chronic injuries, puts his skillset on display. Luka will stay in Dallas. If KP cant stay healthy, not tradeable, the Mavs are underachieving. Anything is possible.
Have to make sure there is a team worth going to.
