I actually rooted hard for the nets in the early 2000’s when the Knicks dark era of suckage under Dolan/Layden/Isaiah started. I liked Kidd, RJ, KMart a lot. I paid to go to Nets games at the meadowlands

On the other hand I can’t think of a more unlikable group of primadonna divas than Durant, Kyrie and Harden

Those Nets were the NJ Nets and had no intention of taking the Knicks' first place in city. They were a nice neighbor. But after moving to Brooklyn, the narrative changed significantly and since then the Nets have been quite aggressive in “taking over the city”. The first attempt with Garnett and Pierce failed ingloriously, but they came back even stronger.

If it was 2000, I’d say they don’t stand a chance because it’s hard for me to imagine a worse defensive pair of defenders than Harden and Kyrie. But given the direction the league has gone in the meantime, it’s not a problem like it would have been 20 years ago. Kyrie, on the other hand, is definitely a time bomb and it’s only a matter of days before he’s unhappy with something. Let's not forget that the man left Cleveland because he didn't want to be the second option behind LeBron ... now he's the third option ...

They are an effing clown show waiting for the little car to explode. Again.

And at least we could have possibly counted on the 2000 Nyets to win every game against the Mavs. For that reason, on a scale of abject suckholeness, the 2000 version is more likable.

"Suckholeness" heh heh heh.

Yeah, I always had a soft spot for the Nets going back to the Buck Williams days, even thought it was cool they moved to Brooklyn (though even as a resident of the borough of Kings I don't care for any "hip" cachet). After the terrible Celtics trade they put together a scrappy nonstar roster that was competitive under Coach Atkinson. Now with three super friend clowns with ascending degrees of unlikeability they can go jump in the Gowanus.

Oh and I would die happy -- Knicks eliminate Nets in first round. Hey I can dream.

We had Doleac, they had Van Horn.
They had Vince. This was post Toronto ass hole Vince but that team was fun to watch.
I want to see Knicks vs. Nets in a series. No rivalry until something is at stake.

I really liked Kenyon when he was on the Knicks, but that Nets team I despised, they were really annoying and the Craptors trading Vince to them for nothing just to spite him and the Knicks was a real kick in the balls.

I kinda know what you mean. I rooted for the Nets too mainly because Kidd's impact on that franchise was incredible. For me, I didn't mind the Brooklyn move until their purchased that billboard near MSG with the Russian and Jay-Z talking about their blueprint for success. That plus bragging about driving up the price for us to get Melo. At that point, they became the enemy and I enjoyed seeing them suck. I hope the KD, Irving, Harden thing totally blows up in their face...but unfortunately I don't think it will.

However, I feel like the Knicks rise to mediocrity gets more buzz than what the Nets are doing, but I may be bias.

I always rooted for the Nets growing up until the Brooklyn move. It was fun as a kid growing up in NJ in the early 2000’s and had an extra $20 you could literally drive 10 mins on the turnpike and watch Kidd in the playoffs on a Sunday afternoon

Kenyon had an effective half season for us as a part time Center in 2013. Kidd too. He really was a driving factor behind that team winning 54 games

I tell you what, I was not a fan of Harden when he was in the houston, but watching him play since he's been on the NETS, He is straight Balling, and I respect players who put that work in, he's making it look easy night in and night out (even without KD and Irving)

The kidd lead Nets was the most dislike roster i ever saw (for me)

Hardens defense has picked up and I thought he put in a good performance last year. Won a game blocking a shot in a key moment in the playoffs. He has more “failures” as the lead performer on the rocket getting them past eventual team that won the chip. He is durable and rarely misses games. I long thought the rockets in season success made anything but a chip not remarkable. MDA really extracted a great deal from his teams there given the talent. Offensively he is not a pretty passer but what he does is really quite good.
Yes, If we had Kyrie and Durant THEN got Harden I’d be stoked as a knick fan. Is it shallow for a fan base to want that? With the amount of savior hoping that was are starphuched graced by talent written by knick fans on these pages (not everyone) I’d say yes. Nets with two owners in the last 10 years have been very bold with spending and trades. At the very least I admire their ambition. Dolan is ambitious but the results speak for themselves!

Is it just me or were the early 2000’s Nets way more likeable?
