I would not give up either....a 2nd rounder is what I would give them....definitely not Knox and Frank has "some" value around the league...

I would just give frank and 2023 dallas first for drummond so the nets won't get him. We need a small forward in case bullock or burks get injured and knox can handle those minutes.

Only way to make it work is to send cap space back. I think we have 15 mm so we’d have to send back 8 mm$. No way on a 1 but A protected 2 is ok with two prospects.

A first for Drummond is us robbing ourselves...let the nets give up a first....no way I give up a first...one or two 2nds as Briggs suggested

but does he fit with this team? Sure he can rebound and score inside... but I would painfully argue that Mitch and Noel fit better with Randle. Does Drummond shoot the 3 decently? Maybe I haven't watched him enough but I see a lumbering center that would have been terrific in 2008. So how would he play/look playing next to Randle (concerned about spacing and packing the paint even more then currently).

most likely we will finish 8-10 seed. I would love to be wrong. I don’t think adding Drummond would make us beat a 1 seed. We can give a 1 seed a fair enough workout with Mitch and Noel. It’s not worth giving up assets for a rental.

If Thibs wants him, I say get him.

He's 27, not 37.

Granted, he probably has a couple (1-3) peak years left, but he seems the kind of athlete that can be productive to his mid 30s.

Why not give up a first round pick? Cleveland is looking to rebuild, not dump salary. Other teams will have a first (maybe not given the trades that have already happened).

He's not Chris Paul (wow I was wrong about him), but I think adding Drummond puts us solidly into the play offs, and with Thibs, I don't doubt we could surprise teams like we did in 99.

Knox, Frank & the lesser of our 2 first round picks & I might include the same for next year- the lesser of our pick or Dallas - since it is protected, you have to make that work.

Heck, maybe we make Obi part of this deal - if your front court is Drummond, Randle and Robinson, where does he fit?

Do I wish he could shoot 3's? Yea.

Am I worried about him and Randle co-existing? Not if Thibs can see it working- and I think they can. I can also see Drummond and Robinson on the court at the same time.

Giving up Frank & Knox (who are not playing and may not be part of the long term plan, or in Frank's case, in the league next year) and an extra first rounder or two (that are lower than the ones we keep), is not paying too much.

Add Drummond, and our biggest hole is PG/SG, and with IQ, we may be ok for one of the spots there.

No way should we give up a 1st round pick for a guy that's essentially a salary dump for the Cavs!! If we want him that bad, we can sign him this summer as a free agent. It makes no sense to trade a 1st for a player that would not only be a 3 month rental, but he does not play a position of need.

Heck, maybe we make Obi part of this deal

This just went from bad, to worse!!! SMH...

We are a slow team in the need for speed and 3 point shooting Dept. Cavs were slower than us with Drummond on the court.

Honestly, he answers none of our pressing issues

Think I may as well. However theif they want more, which I think they will, Rose would need to get a longer term commitment from Drummond's reps. Or a sign and trade.

Not to mention that if this decision is made, Knicks theoretically are moving on from MR

Its simply a rental for this year--no picks--would just give them two younger players not getting burn here. It automatically makes us better and Robinson can take his time and not rush back. Nothing to lose.

Feel like we need a refresher on how to negotiate a trade (and please help me out if I miss anything) and then topped off with some questions that need answering about fit.

The landscape: Drummond will be an UFA at the end of the year, so he is a rental at worst and literally any team can bid for his services. I don't think his Bird Rights or whatnot really come into play here for the team that has him on their roster at the end of this season (versus a guy like Jrue Holiday). Drummond had previously been traded for 2 guys who are out of the league (and the circumstances were a bit different last year but also reveal his market value) and the lesser or 2 teams' second round pick in 2023 (CLE and GS); yes it's almost a protected 2nd round pick when one of the teams is GS. This season is just almost halfway done, so this is a 35+ game player rental.

You are not trading for Drummond to pick up games where Mitch is not playing. Realistically, with the all star game coming up, the Drummond/Mitch'less games will be about 10 or so at most, and then after that you are just taking AWAY from Mitch's development as a starter and benching capable guys Nerlens and Taj for no particular reason.

All front offices are trained to be as RUTHLESS as possible with their counterparts, so you don't just willy-nilly say you would give up cost controlled young players AND a first round pick; that's insanity and reserved for GM's who are better off being department heads at a local Walmart. You start with an offer that matches Andre's current value - give or take made only months ago when he was traded for a 2nd round pick that is protected out to like 50 or so and then throw in some dead weight. A first round pick in this year's draft should be reserved for Dolan's wet dreams of Andrea Bargnani level swaps.

Will Drummond help Mitch or take playing time away? Will Drummond help the defense or just make it worse? What the hell does Drummond do well on offense? He is a ball stopper on O, a very good rebounder and what else?

You can get him for FREE in a couple of months, so why give up ANY assets this side of a second round pick in 2024?
