This is a little bit of a re-tread, but
Malik Monk
Terry Rozier
For
Frank Ntlikina
Kevin Knox
2 second rd picks
(trade exception)
So, LaMelo looks like the real deal and CHA has Devonte Graham to cover the backup. FN gives them a defensive look off the bench that could use a fresh start. CHA clears a bit of cap space over the next several years. They take on Knox who is still young and maybe needs a change of scenery. A couple 2nds make it a little sweeter.
Knicks cap space this summer isn’t looking so appetizing. Not a lot of guys out there. Jrue Holiday is one of the few guys I’d rather have at PG, but let’s be honest, if Jrue preferred NY, Milwaukee would likely do a S&T to get Rozier. So, the fact that we could still sign him outright kind of forces them to take a concession. If Holiday wasn’t interested, well, now you have Rozier, a tough, defensive minded guard that can hit a 3 at a good clip.
We might have missed the boat on signing trading for Monk. His off court nonsense is a problem, but our Kentucky ratio remains a push in the Wildcat/Wildcat swap. His resurgence might be more an indicator of playing off of Ball (get it?) but he would likely feel at home with KP. He is the kind of player the coaching staff would be looking for. If in the SL (with Barrett at SF) he would be another scorer that can spread the floor. I think these two will complement what Barrett does well. In the 2nd unit, I’d like to see IQ and Monk instead of Rivers. Elf loses a ton of playing time in this setup, which is unfortunate but the Knicks have too many point guards.
Look for a follow up move to solidify the SF position (sorry Bullock) with a strong 3&D SF. Either in the draft or free agency.
