If Rice is worth signing, then waive Sundov and sign him and keep Shandon's eventual expiring contract. I haven't watched Rice play; so I don't know if that would be worth doing, but I would do that before buying out Shandon.

I thought I read somewhere that Shandon and his agent wouldn't accept Shandon to be on the IR.
Is 2 years of Shandon and 1 less roster spot worth his contract?

12 years ago. Checketts wanted to draft him ahead of Hubert Davis (although Sprewell was the late first round steal in the 1992 draft).

If he won't go to the IR, you keep him on the active roster and don't play him. Yes, an $8 mil expiring contract can probably be more helpful to the team in 2 years than freeing up the 15th roster spot now and getting another player like Bruno Sundov.
