Not sure what the plan is for the G-league this yr with the NBA. I am sure they will play games if the NBA itself will play 72 games. And they have to play to continue to create faith in high school prospects to come to their developmental product.
But this thread is more about the Knicks than that.
I am wondering if the plan is to heavily utilize the G-League this coming season. Especially for players like Quickley, Iggy, Evans, possibly Spellman, & maybe even Knox. I would say Smith & Frank but they are on the last yr to decide if they stay or go. So I don't see them getting stuck in the G-league with that decision to be made. But this would make sense with how the roster has been shaping up. Build them up in the G-league while veterans work the big club.
With players playing in the G-League, the roster could shape up like this until a trade happens.
Frank/Payton/Smith
Barrett/Rivers/Bullock
Burks/Barrett/MKG
Randle/Obi/Noel
Mitch/Randle/Noel
Then there is the 2nd phase. Which is the future 2nd round picks and late 1st from the Dallas. With high schoolers eventually being able to be drafted. Loading up the G-league with these type of prospects will most likely become the plan. Which is why Rose has been stock piling future 2nds for around 2023. With Rose's agent connections. I am wondering if he has a leg up in that area.
