I think Golden State is going to take the guys we want.
Duarte seems like the perfect guy to take minutes at the 3 spot. Actually like that he’s older and more mature, puts him on the right timeline. A Danny Green type is exactly what we need. As much as I loved what Bullock brought locking him in for 3 years 27MM is a little pricey. We really were a marginal team that overachieved. I see us dropping behind the Celtics, Hawks and Bulls next season. So if they can get any combination of Mann/Duarte and Jackson it’s a big win for talent going forward. We have to get IQ type contributions from these picks to build a real contender for the future. No more Knox, Frank, Obi performers in the draft. |

Givony has the Knicks going developmental with Zaire and Kai in the first round. He has taking Ayo with pick 32. I can see Zaire, but not Kai in the first round

Two project picks should be a no no. Zaire fine but I want talent who can contribute.

If the Pistons really turned down Shai + 6th pick for 1st pick, then they have to think Cade will be a franchise player. I think Cade is great but there is no "safe thing" in the draft. I'm not sure I'd stick with Cade in that case.
SGA, Hayes, Bouknight / Moody (with 6th pick), Bey, Grant...doesn't sound like a bad core. Add another free agent or two and that's totally ok. |

Looks like as we get closer to the draft a few things are happening. Chris Duarte is no longer criminally underrated due to his age and is moving into a mid-teens range which is more commensurate with his value. Trey Murphy III seems to be getting a little overrated. Knock down shooter with good length, but at this point a bit one dimensional offensively and he needs to add more strength to provide value on D- I think late teens- low 20's is right for him, but wondering if he's moving up too fast now. My ideal draft of Duarte and Mann doesn't look like it will happen. If the board fell that way I'd love to add 32 to 19 to move up to get Garuba.

these are my hopefuls. There are plenty of other good players... but these are the guys in the first round I would be pumped for. If we could get Cam Thomas and Garuba you have two guys who both have high ceilings but also have skills Thibs can use to help him win games right away. Those guys could earn rotation minutes the same way IQ did last year.

To me it looks like pick 15-35- you could throw the names in a hat and choose them in any order and it wouldn't be too much of a surprise. There's some good depth and potential contributors in the back half of the first round. Can't wait to see who we've targeted as a fit. I think we have a good chance for PG and a Wing and possible could find a nice defensive minded big.

As the Draft inches closer it seems very unlikely to trade 19 and 21 to move up to the late to mid lottery. With reports that Duarte and Murphy might barge into the lottery potential 2 lottery ranked players might slip. I dont think the knicks will have 3-4 rookies in its roster next year. Is there a scenario they package 21 and 32 to move up to say 16, 17?
Wont teams covet the 32rd pick? Getting a possible 1st round talent without the rookie scale salary? What if they package 19 and 21 and include Dallas' 1st next year, can that move them to 10-15 range? This is a draft where the knicks can possibly find the future starting point guard, with where they are selecting now, Cooper or Mann. If they dont get a pg in this draft im expecting them to sign a PG upgrade next week in free agency. |
