He has the instincts and height of Magic Johnson and the athleticism of Michael Jordan and the shot-blocking potential of Patrick Ewing

oh come on. he's an exciting RAW second round pick who likely couldve been a first round pick--likely lottery if he stayed at UCLA but dont throw those names around on a guy who will be lucky to score 5-6 points a game. Magic johnson was 6-9 240 as a freshmen at Mich St and he doesnt have a prayer to block shots anything close to Patrick ewing who was an all time shot blocker. I think Darius miles is reasonable and fair. they both cant shoot-theyre both 6-8 200--i think darius is an inch taller. they are both nice athletes darius miles averaged almost 10 poinst a game his first year and he was younger than ariza. magic was only 20 when he was an NBA finals MVP. ariza has a long way to go but he has potential to be very good.
You did realize I was joking around, right?

Wow, I haven't thought about Richard Dumas in a long time. Didn't he have tons of natural talent but no discipline on the court or off the court? He reminds me more of Qyntel Woods. I think Trevor's going to go way beyond Dumas. And Ceballos started strong but then became a hugely underachieving pain-in-the-ass, didn't he? Like a Ron Mercer. So good comparisons on the natural ability levels, but f*** those guys on trashing their careers, let's hold out much higher hopes for Trevor.

I wonder if given the choice to have Darius Miles now or Trevor Ariza in 2 years, what would people choose?

I think if given the 26 minutes Miles got his first year, Ariza would surpass him, just because I feel he plays with more passion.

darius miles first year--remember he came right out of HS school--he didnt have a year of college

9.4 pts 6 reb 1.5 blocks 1.2assits shooting 50% in 26 minutes

darius hasnt improved on that until late last year

if trevor ariza puts up anything close to those numbers i would be happy for sure. I think trevor will be more like 16-18 minutes 5 points 5 rebounds 1 steal 1 block shooting 45%

I think he's somewhat unique. Just because he's thin doesnt mean he's weak. He's tough and he's got the wirey strength to him. He's a lot stronger than Tayshawn Prince who's a very good defender.

Either way he's a nice pickup. He's clearly a good addition to the rotation and he came from the scrap heap. Any team could have had him but Isiah's crew scooped him up.

I hate to do this because I trully despise this player but I would compare Ariza to a young Scottie Pippen. When Pippen came in to the league he was 6'7" (around 205lbs) athletic, defensive minded small forward that could not hit an open 10 footer. Same measurements as our boy Ariza. Hopefully Trevor would have Pippen's work ethic and develop an outside game.

I remember Pippen being a VERY skilled player, even early on. Ariza has a long way to go in the shooting/passing catagories... but who cares? We have a 19 year old tough enough to crack the rotation.

Also Ariza doesnt have to do much but jump, board, dunk and defend. Just run around and be a great athlete. We will have 2 superior bal handlers to get him easy looks. His success is a testament to Marbury and Crawford as much as anything. They are making it easy on him to fill this role.

Its to early to tell what type of player Ariza will turn out to be. He has potential in all so many aspects. He can end up being just a defensive specialist who can dunk. Maybe as he get older and wiser his ability to dribble and pass becomes a very strong attribute. Maybe he develops his shot as well. He has potential in all these aspects and he could develop a few of them. He could develop none of them. He could develop all of them, but none at a high level.

Wilkens called him a gym rat who has to be dragged out of the building. So hopefully he keeps it up and becomes a great player. He also needs to stop missing those 3ft shots under the basket DUNK THAT $#!+

i picked dumas becuase he had amazing athletic ability. he ran the floor well and played with zest. off the court is when his life was a shamble ( drugs, arrest, etc.). ceballos was another with tons of athletic ability but he was a flat out scorer too. but he was probably the biggest gunner in league history ( go for 9 for 35 with no assist whatsoever). but i am just comparing the build and athletic ability as well as the suprise factor. dumas and ceballos started as pleasant suprises then their careers were either stagnant or descending rapidly. we can hope azira will improve his game and stay out of trouble so his career will not take the turn to the worst.

I don't think I ever heard a human being complain about us giving up Vranes.

Julius Erving when he started in the ABA. Trevor also really needs to work on his shot, but the toughness, board and d skills are right there already. So are the world class ups.

his toughness reminds me of ron artest
his lankyness and body is sort of like prince
his all round game and athleticism is a little similiar to ginobili without the shot.

thats my perception of ariza

He's like a smaller Marcus Camby- quick and long for his size- no shot, but great finisher on break and around rim.

if he turns into something special for us, it will, i think, mark a nice change in luck for this team- for so long we haven't been able to get the big talent on our own- we've had to over pay or trade for someone.

No. In fact I thought of your response as soon as I saw the mesomorph/ectomorph stuff.
