the first thing on my mind would be darius miles, but i think trevor ha more of a warrior mentality--thats one thing i can notice right away--he's VERY tough. it doesnt matter if hes a toothpick hes got that extra something that you dont teach. let me tell you something if that kid develops a J-and watching his form i believe he will--this kid is going to make people in this pass draft say I farged up bypassing this guy.

imho-this kid will be starting for us when TT's contract is done for sure.

we have 3 real exciting highly talented young guys to compliment the younger vets.

just wish we picked up chris mihm to play C--he's been playing very well for the lakers--again last night 14 points 7 reb 2 blocks in 29 minutes. but we will eventually find someone

yeah, alot of posters here have picked up on Ariza's potential after seeing him finally showcase his talents in a game against NBA level competition...he made Brent Barry & Manu Ginobili look pretty old & slow that game at times...he just needs to develop that jumper like people have said.

i think he reminds me of a young Spree, but taller & w/o the cornrows & goatie.
After 7 years & 40K+ posts, banned by martin for calling Nalod a 'moron'. Awesome.

I also love how the Knicks have the 2, 3, and 4 manned by young players, and a guy in his prime playing the point.

They must find that defensive minded C though.

When Jefferson came into the league, he was lean also, abeit a bit more defined.

How about Jason Richardon?
A young Spree was a good one but Spree was alot shorter .
How about a McGrady when he first entered the league?
Maybe Stackhouse, but with better defense?

I think for the tools I hear he has he sounds like a leaner Richard Jefferson, IMO.

Darius has/had no defense at all when he first entered (even now still) the league. That is an Ariza strength.

Maybe Odom or Caron Butler when he first started out....there are alot of comparisons, but if you want someone with the same
body type, skils, athleticism, speed, defense....I think Jefferson or Butler (more Jefferson) is a better description.

You can also compare him to Boris Diaw and/or Pietrus.

This is what I have been thinking too - that as soon as TT's contract is up, Ariza will have his starting spot. And I think this is a win-win for the Knicks. Next year TT will be playing for another contract and he will be going all out. I hope the Knicks trade him and get something real good in return.

Richard Jefferson
I think it's a good comparison. They're great athletes, strong defenders, great finishers on the break. Ariza has longer arms and I think will get more blocked shots. They both have bad jumpshots too. Hopefully by the team he's RJ's age, Ariza will have a better jumper than RJ does.

huge differnce in strength for guys like richardson and jefferson. different types of builds these guys are mesomorphics while trevor is definitely an ecto-mesomorphic

Both guys were in the League for a years already. Look at the difference only 1 year made for Sweetney. I bet even Miles is alot stronger than Ariza because he has been in the league and a millionaire for years now. To compare Ariza in terms of physical stature regarding physical attributes that can be worked on at the NBA level to the degree that Ariza can work on them in 1 year of college will always leave Ariza lacking when it comes to much of the players in the NBA. I think now the only fair comparisons will be players that just entered the league or an even better comparison would be players whenthey entered the league.

Jefferson when he entered the league wasn't a wisp, but he was thin, and he had the same strengths as Ariza.

In your Favor, Jefferson came into the L at 6-7 215, Ariza is 6-8, 200.

Come to think of it.....How about Gerald Wallace?

obviously now there's a huge difference in strength, but was RJ significantly stronger at age 19 than Ariza is now?

It's funny how there isn't no defining player who Ariza images. He is just so talented... it's like he has a bit of everyone. Now before I get bashed let me say that it is a little to early to judge people.

He has the instincts and height of Magic Johnson and the athleticism of Michael Jordan and the shot-blocking potential of Patrick Ewing

it is hard to pinpoint who ariza reminds me of, but definately not pietrus or diaw, diaw can't hit the side of a barn and pietrus does not handle the ball like ariza does.. Ariza is quick, yet slick, can handle well and is super athletic... I hate to prop the kid up so much at this early stage in his career but I like what I see, I mean how many 19 year old kids are worrying about playing defense.... thats rare... I would say ariza can be a lamar odom/ james posey hybrid.... if that helps any...

oh come on. he's an exciting RAW second round pick who likely couldve been a first round pick--likely lottery if he stayed at UCLA but dont throw those names around on a guy who will be lucky to score 5-6 points a game. Magic johnson was 6-9 240 as a freshmen at Mich St and he doesnt have a prayer to block shots anything close to Patrick ewing who was an all time shot blocker. I think Darius miles is reasonable and fair. they both cant shoot-theyre both 6-8 200--i think darius is an inch taller. they are both nice athletes darius miles averaged almost 10 poinst a game his first year and he was younger than ariza. magic was only 20 when he was an NBA finals MVP. ariza has a long way to go but he has potential to be very good.

darius miles first year--remember he came right out of HS school--he didnt have a year of college

9.4 pts 6 reb 1.5 blocks 1.2assits shooting 50% in 26 minutes

darius hasnt improved on that until late last year

if trevor ariza puts up anything close to those numbers i would be happy for sure. I think trevor will be more like 16-18 minutes 5 points 5 rebounds 1 steal 1 block shooting 45%

big difference in situtations though, isn't there? Wasn't Miles the #3 pick, the highest ever for a HS player at the time, and therefore the recipient of a lot of focus and attention around the league? and was't he playing on a perrenially crappy clippers team, meaning he was going to be featured incessantly since they had little else and needed to justify taking a kid that high?
