Seattle Jazz?

Jazz get great support in Salt Lake. They guy that bought the team owns the arena.

I used to live in Seattle. Moving an nba franchise there now would be an enormous mistake especially if they are leaving a market like Salt Lake City that has decent attendance

There’s no place in Seattle to put in a new arena. SODO is already maxed out with both the football and baseball stadiums and the port plus no one actually lives there so where are the fans coming from

When you plan these new basketball arenas they need to be in places with great mass transit and/or a robust local population living in close proximity to the arena. Obviously MSG is the prime example

They renovated the old arena and NHL is expanding there. so basically they “fixed” the isssue.
It was a good basketball town. Shultz could not find a local buyer. This is before the tech boom created a very wealthy environment and the local govt’ was not supportive of another new arena after committing to the baseball and football stadiums.

The Sonics moved in 2008. Which “tech boom” was that before? Also the part of Seattle where the renovated Key Arena is located is a commuter area that’s dead after 6pm with nothing but druggies hanging around

I can understand a team like the grizzlies moving to Seattle. Crappy attendance in a tiny market west of the Mississippi I doubt Silver wants to waste Ja Morant’s career on that

Seattle is among the handful of metro areas that have seen almost all the nation's tech job growth in the past 15 years – and the wealth that comes with it.

That tech boom.

That would actually work.

Can’t imagine any team in Seattle not with the “Sonics” name reinstalled.
“Grunge” is a good one. When asked many fans gave that support. Humor mockup of a uniform:

NHL new team there will be called “The Kraken”.

Dont live very far from where Kurt Cobain was born.

Would be a lot easier to sell season tickets in Seattle (beyond covid) Agree with that. A lot more transplants now from Cali and the East Coast, who would love an NBA franchise.

What was The issue there? Owner needed a new areana and could not model a profit. They moved in 2008 but Bennett bought them I thought like 2 years prior. City had built baseball and football stadium and had not appetite for more debt.
Was it ever Lack of fan support or had they exhausted itself with losing In a dump arena?

Shultz wanted taxpayers to fund a new arena. So the city balked. They are rebuiding key arena for a future NHL franchise. Maybe an NBA franchise in the future.
