The NBA is having talks about starting the new season around December 22. The motivating factor behind this move is the $500M earnings that will be lost if they start the season next year.

If this is approved we might find a whirlwind of moves happening beginning this years draft slated on Nov 18. If the season cN start Dec 22, the draft can potentially be held sooner to fit the timetable. For a December 22 start, the are aiming to have a 72 game season.

Interesting developments, i hope the front office are ready to implement their offseason plans with a moments notice, i dont want them to rush into any deals haphazardly.

This is going to leave teams scrambling once the draft happens.

I hope for once the knicks can take advantage of the situation and not the other way around when it comes to trades and free agent signings.

Ditto. They are going to have to think quickly though. If the draft is November 16, then they have a month and 6 days to recruit and sign free agents, make roster cuts, sign picks and do a training camp.

Looking at the date now and the report suggest there are still a lot of hurdles to get through before making a December 22 season start to happen. At this point its looking like a long shot but im hopeful. We should have some clarity before the month ends, otherwise it will be too short a time for everyone to get things running.

It sure will be a crazy rush- hope they don't compromise the safety of players, coaches and fans in their haste to start the season

I think they will come to a solution rather quickly with that much money on the line.

They did a magnificent job in the bubble. I can’t fathom in light of the current environment how they can do a season in each city with travel without disruptive instances.

I wonder how much additional load management we'd see due to the shortened recovery window players will have and the possibility of the Olympics. I'm glad to have the NBA back, but we might be looking at a crappier product on the court. The entire country might be able to empathize with what Knicks fans go through.

The bubble might be a way of life for the Nbas for a year or two

I think the NBA and NHL did great with the bubble. I don't think the NFL has done horrible without.

Now- the thing to remember is these teams are all (I assume all) testing daily. That alone should help.

If they don't bubble, what happens if a team ends up with a few players on the covid list? The NFL has been lucky to reschedule, so without some kind of buffer where the allow teams to miss a certain number during the course of the season, hard to see how they could.

But I will say this - they need to start because while I caught some of the NHL and NBA, being played when they were, games at noon during the week and stuff like that, it was hard! They need to line up to when they traditionally played.

The bubble was a compressed schedule. Without it they can have games at regular times and get them broadcasted via local cable, ESPN, NBA tv, and TNT as they used to. Remembered it was only an 8 game bubble season. They need to maximize TV revenue. Ratings have make sense. I’d pay more via league pass, but there would be a limit.

Same **** with Movies. James Bond Flick cost about $250 mil to produce and its rumored to be shopped via streaming. $600 mil was a rumored figure. MGM has to pay the “Sponsers” who placed product and had other deals like McDonalds. Universal had the non U.S. distribution rights.

I legit wonder how they handle travel and players getting sick. NBA players are not as disposable as NFL players and they have a union that reflects that.

Is it possible to create a special reserve list in the roster? Say an additional 3-5 player pool per team for when a player gets infected. I do think that the whole season should still be in a bubble. They already have a system and protocols in place from the recent bubble and have been successful mostly in managing it. They just have to incorporate the 8 other teams in. They might need around 2 more courts to accommodate the usual daily game load of the season. I didnt really follow and watch the games in the bubble but how many courts did they utilize? Is there a way to have 2-3 courts there?

Harder to make up games as well. I am assuming that they will ONLY start in December if and only if a vaccine is close to ready. Maybe they’ll start in the bubble then switch to empty arenas then maybe 25% capacity for the playoffs?
