2020 NBA Draft: Golden State Warriors not likely to use No. 2 overall pick on a center, per report
This would likely rule out James Wiseman and perhaps even Onyeka Okongwu for Golden State

Bob Myers talks at Stephen Curry's MVP press conference
USATSI
The Golden State Warriors find themselves in an interesting, if not advantageous, position as they move full-steam ahead toward the NBA Draft next month. Klay Thompson, Stephen Curry and Draymond Green return to form a core group that could contend for the NBA title next season. And on top of that, they hold the No. 2 overall pick in this year's draft.

What Warriors general manager Bob Myers does with that pick -- whether it's flipping it, trading down or using it -- has been the topic of conversation for months. He's come out and said the team will "consider" trading the pick, but he's not committed to anything. But if the organization stands pat, it's looking increasingly likely that, if James Wiseman is available, they'll be passing. Here's what The San Francisco Chronicle's Connor Letourneau reported on that front this week:

"Everyone I've talked to in the organization doesn't feel comfortable spending the kind of money associated with an early lottery pick on a center when Golden State prefers to play a position-less, up-tempo style. Odds are that the Warriors will round out their center rotation in free agency."

If this holds true, it would almost certainly rule out Wiseman, the 7-foot-1 center from Memphis who is widely viewed as a consensus top-five prospect. It could also rule out the possibility of the Warriors trading down to address the position with USC one-and-done center Onyeka Okongwu looming as a clear lottery prospect as well.

Surround yourself with inspiration and take on the world with capability and style
It's still pretty difficult to determine what is news and noise with respect to any NBA Draft buzz, however, because even a month out, teams have not yet been able to interview or work out prospects in person.

Nonetheless, this falls in line not only with how the NBA is moving -- where the value of centers and power forwards are slightly devalued, particularly on teams like Golden State -- but also with recent reports coming out of Golden State. Just six months ago, you might remember, a report came out indicating the Warriors weren't high on LaMelo Ball or Wiseman, considered two of the top five players in this class, because they had their eyes on Israeli forward Deni Avdija.

Should the Warriors plan to address the center position via free agency and hang on to their pick, it could set them up to select Georgia wing Anthony Edwards, Iowa State guard Tyrese Haliburton or even the aforementioned Ball, who are all likely in play at the No. 2 spot.

For the warriors

Their interest

1. Deni
2. Vassel
3. Halliburton
4. Edwards
5. Ball

The list is not based on talent. It’s about what would work best for their team structure.

I see an active trading up/down during the draft.

The Knicks plans may have to adjust to plan C if okoro Hayes and vassel are gone. They may want to trade down and raid the teens and upper 20s picks.

We will be deep with high level roll players! To either keep or package for a star next year.

Disagree. That list is based on talent

The warriors are salivating over trading down with us to get RJ and/or Mitch plus Vassell

I heard they are having a hard time finding trade partners because they’ve asked for so much. The only team that seems really interested is Indiana with a package based around Myles Turner.

Everyone and their mother is looking to trade down this year... starting to feel like the year to trade up. The knicks should offer 2/3 of what fair market value is and leave it in the table and see if any fish bite. I don’t see it as a “we have to trade to get player x” I see it as a way of generating value

Trade up to get what though? LaMelo can’t shoot and doesn’t play D plus his dad will bring the circus to town. Wiseman is a Center and we already have Mitch. I like Avdija but I don’t know if he’s good enough to trade up for

The draft is weak in a the sense that pick 1,2,3,4, 5 is about as talented as pick 18, 19, 20, 21, depending on your need.

Which is why you take the best player available. Certainly you have read that by now? A lot of teams do that.
YOu trade up if you have conviction that certain player is special.
Everything we read is speculative. Nobody or their Mother is showing their cards or discussing with the media what they are intending. If you have the time to look at the teams in front of us objectively it would be helpful.
What does Minny hope to accomplish with their set roster?
Pick, and other assets as currency to make a trade for established player?
GSW retooling for another run. What can Wiseman, Ball or Edwards to to accomplish that?

Mitch with his upside, current defensive ability, WITH THAT FREAKING CONTRACT makes him a very valuable piece to trade. If I see LaMelo as Jason Kidd with more hops, Edwards as a Donovan Mitchell/Dwade, or Wiseman as an Embiid/Ayton with huge upside then I might go there. I go by videos? Nope, I go by my staff. Perrin, Perry, Bryant, etc etc and listen to their opinions and then decide. If the market for MRob is not what I think, then I don’t trade him.
Also what’s my conviction rate on next years draft? Other teams know what’s up but do I keep my picks, use them as currency now, or obtain more?
If San Antonio and GSW are calling me about Frank maybe I think “wow, the really smart teams like him”.
Do I have to finish that thought for you 1248?

Is Miles Turner a good player? I've never really watched him, but thought he seemed promising when we drafted KP, but Pacer fans seem to dislike him. Is he considered a valuable player by GMs in general?

He's pretty good. I don't think Pacers fans hate him, they just like Sabonis more.

Miles Turner is a solid player, but he is more of a traditional center. He does not have a perimeter game like Sabonis.

He's pretty much Taj Gibson.

I know him and Sabonis had some big games against us when Fiz and JH coached

It was reported Thursday that the Warriors weren't interested in drafting a center at No. 2, but the weeks leading up to any sports draft are characterized by smoke and mirrors, with agents and other "insiders" leaking information to either help their own cause or be a detriment to others.

Wiseman's blend of size and athleticism makes him a tantalizing prospect for any team in need of frontcourt depth. The Warriors are expected to roll out Marquese Chriss as the starting center, but he is much more of a known commodity than Wiseman.

Smoke and Mirrors. Wiseman will be their pick. He is perfect fit. Wiggins the scrappy 3 they need and Wiseman the athletic big they like.

Why the smoke and mirrors? To distract Memphis? Wiseman is an unknown quantity. Now, if GSW loves him and has a high conviction for him then it depends on Memphis.
Think Memphis will change their minds if they know what GSW would do?

I think media and fans provide the bulk of disinformation i.e., smoke and mirrors in the draft build up! What more could the teams add?

Probably more to sell clicks. Or may be putting it out there to see what some teams would be willing to give for the pick, Due diligence. I just do not see them giving up a chance to draft this kid unless there is a kings ransom offered for him. He is the best fit out of the top picks and fills a need. Which he can come in right away and fill.
