The Hawks are hiring Austin Spurs general manager Landry Fields as their new assistant general manager, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

The 32-year-old Fields joined the Spurs as a scout in 2016 and was promoted to G League GM last year. He is filling a vacancy in Atlanta that has been open since Jeff Peterson, who was the Hawks’ assistant general manager under general manager Travis Schlenk, left in 2019.

Fields also spent five seasons in the NBA, playing for both the Knicks and Raptors. In 255 games, he averaged 6.8 PPG and 4.3 RPG.

Who says we don't have a good developmental system haha Congrats! I wonder if he'll sign his boy Lin.

Congrats to Landry Fields
That’s a great job. I always think of George Costanza— assistant to gm😺 but Landry got the arm chair fans dream job! Wish him great sucess. Atlanta I think is going places

2 weeks ago Lin announce his comeback...

Fields: Yo lin, they just offered me the GM position for the Hawks, Pack ya **** homie your coming home.

Lin: No way dude..ok Let me go public with my comeback before they announce your hiring, this way it doesn't look fishy.

Fields: Cool..Cool, see ya in a few weeks..

LOL..I would be happy for both of those guys, their brief knick career was a fun time, who knew it would have only lasted a NY minute.

Assistant GM... not GM. Otherwise I am happy for him.

As a senior at STANFORD he was PAC-10 Scholar athlete of the year. That GPA and I assume he got his degree. IN a world where most NBA players don’t that is meaningful. ITs no prerequisite having a successful pro basketball career but it is in the business world.
That he made it to the NBA and earned a big contract but cut down by an injury its a nice story to advocate for academics for those inclined. We tend to focus on few star players and how unfair the NCAA is taking advantage of them. Yet, there are 350 Division I men’s teams. Roughly 4300 scholarships. NBA drafts 60 players a year from that pool. There are only 450 players in the NBA at any given time. Many foreign players now come from outside the College system. Many Americans play overseas.
My point is simple, basketball is a way for many opportunities off the court. I don’t know if Landry would been able to succeed outside of playing on scholarship but that every year there’s a few thousand players that won’t sniff a contract overseas. ITs not star players responsibility to carry all those other players but not every recruit is a top dog and some grow a few inches, get stronger and become pro players.
For Landry I’m happy this kid is obviously putting in the work and was held in high esteem by the Spurs organization which is still the model of one being well run. To go from a star player to scout is a humble journey. Landry is a charismatic fellow and should do well. Hopefully he can keep ascending. Good for him!

In the BCL this season Andy Rautins is averaging 7.8 points per game, 5.3 rebounds and 4 assists doing all the work for Banvit. The Turkish side is standing on a 5-3 record and after being last season’s finalists, they dream big.

Can they go all the way this time? If 31 years old Rautins continues to play like that, you never know…

that's exciting for me.. I have a Landry Fields jersey, because I got to sit courtside in Houston, and my dad got me Spike's jersey du jour. Glad I got to share that with him, biggest Knicks fan I ever knew

actually should we take bets on MDA ending up in Atlanta?

How good would Trae Young look in MDA's system?
