What's your salary limit for Lin? Would he be more of a help or a hindrance to Frankie's development?

Linsanity was never going to have a good ending. If he got the money here he'd gotten the hate.
Lin is still an NBA talent in a back up role.
We talk about Dragic being here but he succeeds because he has a great role in Miami in that culture. He cannot play starters minutes.

It’s unfortunate because the month Lin got hot here was not only the most fun month of Knicks basketball in decades it was the most entertaining month of the nba since the Jordan era.

I think a lot of the players hated it though. The Miami Heat made a point to crush it.

It was stupidity that persists to this day. Today’s nba superstars like Paul George and Kevin Durant want all the glory but none of the pressure or criticism that comes with being a public figure

That’s why Paul George chokes in the playoffs and blames it on pressure and Kevin Durant will be threatening to retire in about a year

If we want to roll the dice on cheap, Lin on a low/min contract as a mentor/4th guard would be sweet.

I'd prefer him over the likes of Bullock and Ellington - those guys cannot create (though historically, those guys are supposed to shoot from 3 at a high 30s clip - Lin can't do that).

If the Knicks are out of the playoff picture down the stretch, he'll be an easy trade as deep insurance for a playoff team - ie he's a champ now; he contributed 26 minutes during the Raptors' playoff run as the 3rd PG.

(Lin is more likely to sign on with wherever Atkinson ends up)

I don't think it was anything anything personal. Vets always go hard after new players getting the limelight. It might have been personal with Deron Williams. He was on a mission that second game against Lin.

Yeah, Lin really took on a mentorship role in Atlanta. I think he'd be good in the locker room, kinda like Jarret Jack was.

Lin still has bitterness over how Carmelo treated him while he was here. Would he want to come back?

I doubt it. I don't think he was ever bitter. Listen to all his teammates not named Melon. They all loved him. I think he would be a good change of pace PG to backup Frank.

Absolutely. Offense was stagnant when Payton was in. No flow. Could be a product of spinover but offense was bad when he was in.

Interesting question Lin vs Payton.

I guess in a nutshell:
* Lin is better when he's surrounded by role players/teammates playing within a system. In these situations, he can lead plays, make opportunistic reads and ad lib in the pick and roll. At his best is a bit like Nash super-lite or Dragic-lite. He's a legit floor general and offensive threat - he makes defenses react. He seems to play best with role players, meshes less well with other ball dominant guards.

* Payton is at his best when surrounded by better players; I think he's a great complementary player, but doesn't drive the team on the floor. I think of Payton as a "quadruple double waiting to happen" stat stuffer - he'll literally do all of the little things in big ways. He's rarely an offensive threat, though. He may get his points but it's because he's being left open and he's being opportunistic.

At his age and with many injuries in his history, it's tough to say if he still has the explosion he once did. He's just a really aggressive player and that puts him at risk for injury. I think the Jarrett Jack comparison is pretty spot on in terms of Lin's impact on the floor.

Can't argue with this assessment.

That description describes Lin a few major injuries ago. I'd have to go Payton until I see what Jeremy has left in the tank.

Depends on how many PG's the Knicks keep. And I do not think the FO, who appear to be looking for an upgrade at PG, would make this type of move. But sure...bring him back for the Vets minimum. It would be a good story and he is Knick fan favorite.

I'd be terrified to swap Payton with Lin directly. :o It'd mean the Knicks are feeling really confident with DSJ/Frank/RJ all taking big steps with their playmaking. At age 26, I'd still have more confidence in Elfrid getting better (or the Knicks putting together an improved cast) than Lin playing a big role 2 or 3 seasons removed from his last productive role in the NBA. (He was injured with the Nets, rehabbed/played sparingly with Atlanta/Toronto, then was away for a year in China).

The only Knick we've seen scrimmaging with other players is Mitch. (I wouldn't be surprised if his playmaking has gotten better - and he's starting at close to 0)
