In general, some NBA team will find a place for him, so he and his family can have medical benefits. Also the league will likely get better access to any vaccine and NBA medical staffs are some of the best in the entire world.
Once you are "inside" a league's general structure, they will try their best to take care of you. It's also a hedge one day if the situation is ever reversed.

It might not be an elite job or even a good paying one, but no former Maverick will go hungry on his watch as long as they are willing to work. He didn't want to be a handout type owner ( like Al Davis) because he didn't think that has helping a person. Delonte West and Lamar Odom are probably the only exceptions to Cuban's stance.
