Meh.

He did a nice job with his evaluations but his premise is wrong.

The Knicks cannot go into this draft the way that PJ did years ago. We are down the road from starting from scratch. We did draft out PG three years ago in Frankie AND we paid the dues. He's now ready to begin his most productive years as a Knick.

Secondly Perry acquired Payton, another highly talented PG whose dues have been paid and remains a player with great upside going forward.

AT PG, the Knicks are at a Sophomore stage of "need", the need being one, both or an unexpected find coming into their own no later than this coming season.

In other words, the Knicks have absolutely NO urgency to waste a draft pick on a dubious class of over-hyped PGs who, more likely than not, are themselves three years away from either being ready to contribute or altogether out of the league. IMO, taking the ball out of the hands of players who have a vested tenure in playing it out is a Fizzzzdale thing to do. This team isn't on the verge of a ring but they shoulda/coulda/woulda been playoff worthy even last year. Throwing out the baby with the bathwater is never a good idea for an incoming coach who genuinely understands Knicks history.

For the draft, the Knicks need to stick to BPA. Full stop. We all have ideas who that might be and if, in the judgement of the FO that's a PG, so be it.

However, there is no way they should pretend 3 and D players are a dime a dozen.

IMO, I think there are PG candidates later in the draft who are not as hyped as some who will be fine investments as second and third string players. We have picks and, yet again, a good set of talent evaluators.

I’m sorry you lost me when you said Payton was highly talented with upside..... also expecting Frank to be a Pg is another mistake.

Anyhow The Knicks need to wheel and deal in this draft. They have cap space and teams are in financial binds. They could come away with two lottery picks and some decent players if they play their cards right.

All that said, they need a legit GOOD pg prospect. I don’t want DSJ, Frank, or Payton looked at as anything but career backups by the allstar game.

If the FO needs to draft a CAA client to appease Rose side hustle....“F’k it” .....but if they wait until the 20’s to draft a PG they are just the same morons we always have in the FO.

I don't see drafting a PG in the 20s as a bad thing. Players drop and the landscapes change. If the most talented player available is someone like Terry or Riler than you grab that guy. If you're looking at Cole or Kyra at 8, I see no need to force the pick. Let's just hope our guys are prepared and have several prospects vetted at our respective picks. Walt Perrin has shown that he knows how to organize and scout. I don't agree with all his past selections in Utah, but he seems to have a clue.

I'm [obviously] not arguing that the Knicks don't need solid draft picks, they do.

And advocating for BPA with every pick can mean a PG pick anywhere.

I think the more subtle point I'm making is that I don't think we can afford another 'rebuild' counting on any draft pick this year. We have vets who are statistically speaking ready to hit the ground running with a better than even chance of getting off the ground.

I see it this way the knicks can try to hit a home run and go after a player who they think they can build around or they can get a player who actually shows them trying to build around what they have. The issue with the Knicks is they random as ****, and never choose either well. I think they wanted Ball as a player to build around but Knicks luck (aka Silver) kicked in and they fell back.

I would say they need to at least try and invest in the current youth with a better PG. the best PG they had since Marbury was 39 year old Jason Kidd.

They need to draft and try to develop a damn PG. It’s a bad comedy how we suck and also seem to have crap PG play every year, and then come draft time they start talking about Wings and ****. Then the fans start talking about it too, and it becomes this twisted confirmation bias of wings who might be decent never having a pg to get them the ball in easy places.

Now we are hearing rumors Thibs like DSJ and I keep thinking is all this to make sure the Knicks draft a damn CAA client and we fell out of Ball and Haliburton range so it’s just there non PGs available.

I'm not going to fret about this draft. Our FO has more than enough time to look over the prospects. It's been further solidified since to August 20th Lottery. The only question I see is another team wanting to move up, or get rid of a player in free agency. Walt Perrin, to his credit, has picked Howard, Gobert and Mitchell from further back than we are now. I trust him to have sound judgement when it comes to the picks we have.

I would love moving back to #10 drafting Kira and taking Oubre for, the Suns.

They seem, to really want Obi Toppin and he would fit what they are doing well, so maybe we get lucky and get two good players

For me, its all about who is also available. Do feel that Hayes is one of the better PG's in the draft and he has been ranked as a top 10 on most boards. Also think Haliburton, with his size, has potential as well. However, keep bringing up the point on how hard it is to transition to the NBA level as a PG. Specially when your talking about 18 and 19 year olds. Would rather wait until the 27 or trade down for a couple of picks than pick a PG at that spot. Feel if we go with some of the athletic SF's or PF;s, it gives us a safer pick and a player that will contribute right away. We also have 3 PG's that I feel will contribute more next year than any first year PG. Would rather give them a shot or get one in FA as oppose to using a lottery pick on a draft hyped replacement while passing on a higher impact player.

My dream would be to trade down and get any combination of Bey, Hampton, Maledon or Maxey. Keep saying that my gut feeling is that we will draft Maxey for some reason. Who was a top recruit and considered top 5 going into college.

I've warmed up a bit to Maxey. He's a really good finisher and attacks the rim well. I still have Cole a bit higher. I've noticed that a lot of the complaints people have with his game are similar to the ones people had for Donovan Mitchell. Still don't feel comfortable taking either one at 8.

Would agree. 8 would be a stretch. The Kenny Payne connection and Kentucky lineage makes me feel they are really looking at him. Even though it's not the best pick since we have RJ it does fit the trend of having multiple combo guards.

3 years from now, I feel like Maxey will be be considered a top 5 possibly top 3 player from this draft. Love his game, not only does he attack the basket and finish, but he can be relentless on defense. He is the ideal, new generation, lead guard. 6'3, strong, plays down hill and can score the ball.

The other guard who has tremendous potential and could turn out to be a steal late in the draft is Jahmi'us Ramsey!!

A case for Killisn Hayes and Kira Lewis at pick 8
