So now we have the draft positioning sorted and likely we'll only add a decent role player, has it impacted whom you want in free agency? What salary dumps would you take on?
https://hoopshype.com/2020/01/20/nba-free-agency-2020-the-top-players/ Tweet was deleted or there was problem with the URL: I just want 2 way, decent, competent players from now on while the coaches focus on developing our young players. Players I'm still interested in: Point Guards: Fred VanVleet- we desperately need a PG, we likely won't get one in the draft and he fits what I want from signings- can shoot decently from 3, plays good defence, is clutch. Nothing fancy or spectacular. Doubt Raptors let him walk. Likely we'll have to settle for stop gaps like: Dragic, DJ Augustin Or we just commit to Frank or DSJr as starting PG and wait until next draft.
I wanted Joe Harris, but there is no chance of that. However, maybe Malik Beasley might be an option now the Twolves can pick Edwards. Only if cheap though.
If Bulls draft Deni, I'd take on Otto Porter as a salary dump (I'm moving Knox to PF so we need a SF and the free agent options are terrible)
Hopefully we can dump Randle, though I doubt it. If we do, I'd consider: Bertans, Jerami Grant. Maybe Gallo.

Just checked, if you thought 2020 free agency was bad, wait until you see unrestricted free agency in 2021- absolute trash (unless I'm missing something?). Realistically the only big names likely to move are: 29yr old Rudy Gobert (I could see us signing him if Mitch doesn't pan out), Giannis (no way he comes here) and Oladipo (greatly diminished form his injury, and no way he comes here). Maybe AD depending on what he decides to sign this offseason (again no way he'd come here).
Look at the list: https://hoopshype.com/2019/09/19/nba-free-agents-in-2021/ Makes handing out multiyear (or taking on multiyear) contracts have less downside to me, especially with all the shooting available. I don't want a repeat of the inflated 1 year deal thing we tried this year (and Perry tried with the Kings the year before to equally terrible results). Multiyear deals mean the players acquired are less likely to worry about their stats and are more likely to share the ball and play team ball (hopefully). I do think there would be some good, role player bargains this offseason as teams won't want to risk finances for just role players for what is likely going to be a weird season. |

Much could change based on player locking in extensions and the proposals for cap smoothing. James, Leonard, George... This is a better visual. You know I gonna spin wit it

Because no stars with player options are coming here- have you not been following this team for the past 20 yrs?! This obsession/delusion with signing stars stops us from actually building a team and making smart low key FA signings. |

You explicitly stated that the entire 2021 UFA class is trash. That is untrue. There are multiple players on player options that may opt into UFA next year. The class is not trash, that is patently false. There is a strong case for a “taking my talents to South Beach” alliance next year. Especially if a team like Brooklyn gels and puts together a chip. You can’t see Giannis putting together a squad in San Antonio? Or Kawhi moving to Dallas? Portland making a move for Anthony Davis? Economically, it nearly never makes sense for “stars” to change teams, but it happens more and more often as the players seek to pair and triple up to win a chip and franchises are forced to accommodate to preserve assets.
