Kidd and M.Jackson were terrific players but trouble follows them due to their behaviors and that's why they have the reputations they have. Lakers didn't want to touch Kidd as an assistant, but changed minds due to LBJ. It's okay to secretly want your head coaches job - it's different when you get caught trying to overthrow the head coach as an assistant. I'm all for the Mike Millers and type that seem to focus on themselves, their job performance and are accountable for their efforts. Kidd seems like a sophisticated car salesman - great interviews, yet look at the end results. Ok records with terrible departure drama. We have enough of that already. Look how much better Bud is doing with Bucks... no Christmas cards from the Nets arrriving anytime soon. Not saying we have to go with the coach with the most integrity - but maybe just stay away from the ones that seem lowest on the recent list. I'd personally go for Atkinson as he seems like a good fit for the type of roster we currently have and wouldn't have to trade low on all our young players to acquire 29 year old vets to sneak into the playoffs next season.
He didn’t try to overthrow a HC, he tried to overthrow the worst GM in NBA history in Billy King. Think about that, because we’ve had some real stinkers as GMs and Billy King was worse than all of them. His only issues with coaches was when he had beef with his assistant coach Lawrence Frank and it spilled out into the media.
Also yes Bud is a better coach than Kidd, arguably Budd is the best coach in the NBA. Kidd however took a bunch of Scraps like a skinny Giannis and said put the ball in his hands and that is a major key to Giannis becoming the MVP he is now. He took a second rounder in Malcolm Brogdon (a pg, like we will likely draft) and got ROY production from him. Kidd took Middleton who was a no name add on in a Brandon Knight trade and set him on the path to him being a All Star. His development credentials outshine all the other candidates in the pipeline.
Bring Kidd to NY, draft a PG (hopefully Hayes), let Kidd take RJ aside and teach him how to be the man with the ball in his hands. Keep Miller on as the defensive coach since that is the only real flaw to his coaching history and lets see what happens.
Saying Kidd is a car salesman is mixing him up with Fizdale, his record shows that every team he’s join got better with him. I am not saying he is the long term fix, but for where we are he might be exactly what the Knicks need.
