Since he does have seniority with H20 on the team, might as well give it to him...

Thats cool though.. Since joining the knicks, he's improved tremendously.. This could be a short stint as co-capt for the knickerbockers depending on any trades...

Good for him... My first reaction was more of a cringe... but...

Here's a guy who can play the 4 and the 5, doesn't complain, is capable of 20 rebounds and 20 points, shoots ft's well, has a good jumper, and is above all consistent.

How can Kurt Thomas be named a captain?? this guy has such a short temper and loses his cool a lot when calls dont go his way and gets stupid technical fouls. I mean dont get me wrong I like Kurt Thomas' game but i dont think he should be named captain. I hope he meant it when he said he wasnt going to get as many technicals this year, but im not sure cause he has such a short fuse

I'm interested to see what way Kurt responds to this. I would like to have him think, "I'm a captain, I have to do what's best for this team, even if it means taking a step back", but I unfortunately see him trying to do more than he should, to live up to the title.

I agree he plays hard and is a good defensive player, but I definitely wouldn't say that he doesn't complain. I think he whines too much.

I think this definitely means he will be the starting PF, he will not be happy if he isnt starting and it wont be good for the team to have an unhappy captain

Sure. By naming KT a co-captain, it sends a signal to other teams, however transparently, that he is highly thought by the Knicks, instead of perhaps the existing perception that KT is someone they are primarily looking to dump. It may also motivate him to play harder and more determinedly. So in effect, it will maximize Kurt's value both to the Knicks and to other teams, as long as he stays healthy and plays reasonably well.

It demonstates that the Knicks believe he is a leader. That can increase a player's market value.

I believe this is a case of Isiah trying to be too cute.If Sweetney outplays him for the starter's job that promotion is going to ring very hollow.Like other posters have mentioned,the other GMs in the league know its meaningless since he has made clear repeatedly that he wants to trade him.It also dilutes the title of captain.Yes we have had multiple captains before but this time its more of a ploy than Isiah showing KT respect.

I'm sure the Knicks would like other teams to think that....I just don't think that they will fall for it.

i think the EXACT opposite. i think naming him captain is just a sign of gratitude and it'll be a little easier when they tell him sweetney's starting. it's way better to start the season with sweets than try to tell kurt he's gonna be benched during the season.
