Woodson is already a well paid assistant. Why would he want to be an assistnt witn a new coach in NY? MIller I can understand.
same for the others. They are lead assistnts were they are. They want a head coach position. Fleming might be next in line anyway in Chicago. If not, then he might want to leave if new coach (Boylen likley on the outs) bringing in his own guy.

because of the Knick history with coaches maybe? I mean there are two clear thats to being an NBA head coach. Clearly demonstrating talent as coach or being next in line on the Knick's bench

Woody was going to be an assistant under Fiz, but management decided it wouldn’t be a good idea and nixed it according to one of the beat writers, i think

Woodson wants to be a head coach. His last two shots at it, it was based off of being an assistant and then moving up to the job after the previous guy was fired. For a guy like this, who is not a strong X's and O's type of guy, his pathway is to find a team that is perpetually struggling, wait, determine who the most important player on the team will be, cozy up to him, then when the head coach gets fired, the franchise and the owner will ask, "Who does Best Player We Have Now X want as coach?"

Woodson isn't respected enough as a tactician to garner a head coaching job outright.

When you have a guy like this, a lot of existing coaches don't want him on their team.

A guy like Spolestra is a different animal. He started as a film/video guy but soon all the players were coming to him because he was essentially coaching them while going over film with them. Consider Spolestra was doing this without any extra support and on top of his other duties. The way scouting and film existed when Spolestra started was not like today. Fucking guy just outworked everyone else. Didn't cozy up to anyone, helped everyone. When a guy is working 20 times harder than anyone else in the building, and tells you what you need to do to get better, you find you'll start to listen.

You hire a Spolestra because you realize if you don't, another team will, and this kid will grow up and **** your team over for the next 15-20 years after that. This is the bitch you marry.

Woodson is like a rebound chick who pokes holes in your stash of condoms. No one wants to marry this side piece, but you might get ambushed real deep if you are locked in a dry spell.

JVG was Riley’s “Spo” in NY. Outworked everyone and got promoted via video. He could not follow Riles to Miami and stuck with Nellie as he had a contract with knicks. He then sidled with Ewing and ascended to the throne.
I’m not anti Woodson, its just thinking time for a fresh approach. Thibs to his credit will out work all others and set a high bar. Maybe its time for him to create his own tree before he is caste aside 3-4 years down the road? I see Thibs as a Larry Brown type. A franchise can only tolerate that intensity but for so long. Larry knew this as did those that hired him. All except Isiah.
