Knicks hire CAA's William Wesley to advisory role

Senior NBA Insider

The New York Knicks have hired CAA's William Wesley as executive vice president/senior basketball adviser, the team announced Wednesday.

Wesley has been a consultant in the coaching division of CAA for 13 years and has a long professional and personal relationship with new Knicks president Leon Rose.

Rose and Wesley worked together at CAA and have a history back to their starts in New Jersey.

"My long history with and respect for Jim Dolan and Leon Rose, as well as the chance to be part of the New York Knicks, made this an opportunity I wanted to pursue," Wesley said in a statement. "I look forward to joining the current staff and moving the organization toward a successful future."

Known as World Wide Wes in basketball circles, Wesley is considered one of the great connectors and relationship builders in the sport. Wesley joins a front office that includes Rose, general manager Scott Perry and chief strategist Brock Aller.

Rose said in a statement that Wesley is "one of the most well-connected and respected people in the basketball community and he will be a tremendous asset and resource to both myself and the New York Knicks."

The only team in all of sports that did not have formal introduction to their new president, just a generic memo.

This wasnt a matter of If but When! Its difficult to get excited considering the multiple times we have played musical chairs with our front office. Also, our owner, the elephant in the room, has had a knack of undermining our past front office decision makers. I guess I'm in a wait and see mindset...

Wow, wasn't expecting it- they seemingly pulled the plug on the idea months ago (at the time reports said it would prove too difficult and costly for him to divest himself of all financial interests), good to see he's officially in the fold (I was worried we'd get busted for insider dealing or something!)

I know all about world wide wes...The problem is, I also know all about Dolan too. And his inability to stay out of his own way is the ultimate problem. IF Dolan can stay out of the way and allow Rose and Wes to build this team, then I think there is a good chance we can return to a respectable franchise. My wait and see mindset set is solely about Dolan...

With that said, Wes's name is so respected in not only basketball circles but entertainment circles, that if Dolan screws this up and ends firing Rose and Wes, we will reach a new level of dysfunction

I hope this means we are now an enticing place to play for top FAs. No more using us as bargaining chips to get a bigger contract somewhere else.

You can't ask an owner to stay out of his own business, and you can't asked a owner to get out of your office, just leave the check book.

There are very few owners in sports that's completely hands off.

The people Dolans hired (not name mills) all have had a good amount of success prior to coming here. We are just famous for hiring the right people and putting them in the wrong roles.

It's like signing a great quarter back and then telling him to play wide receiver.

They acquire solid talent, then put them in new roles they can't handle.

All and all it seems like there's at least a plan going forward. I'm sure there will be some star chasing, but these are the guys most qualified to do it in the league. As long as you can do it while still building the youth, it's all good.

Always... always remember: Less is less. More is more. More is better and twice as much is good too. Not enough is bad, and too much is never enough except when it's just about right. - The Tick

Mar-bu-li!!!! Miss his rants!!!
Best endorsement yet! Wish he said why at least. Starman exile was not graceful. He got beef but much was self inflicted.

And now Rashweed is throwing his non-endorsement in too. I guess most players not playing anymore hate agents. Because they were not players and not coaches.

And in Starbles case, they're from Philly. No cred in NYC for agents coming from Philly.

Should be interesting to hear from the Oakman next. Unless he's under double-secret probation. LMAO

I didn't click on the Marbury link, but for those that did watch. Was he eating Vaseline while ranting about Wes?!

Is it too late to fire this Moron?

Sources confirm Wesley has been in the Knicks owner’s ear for 15 years, working behind the scenes. As is his custom.

A Knicks coach from the Glen Grunwald era verified the influence of “World Wide Wes.”

“When we were there, I was told he listened to ‘World Wide Wes’ more than he did Grunwald,” the coach told The Post.

Indeed, Wesley has been free with advice for Dolan, but not all of it constructive.

The Post has learned Wesley was a driving force behind Dolan moving on from Grunwald after a 54-28 season four days before the 2013 training camp. Wesley recommended bringing back Steve Mills,
