I saw that first suggestion for Oladipo and immediately thought it was a dumb idea; awfully lobsided in the Knicks favor. Oladipo was an all-star pre-injury which is something Randle won't ever come close to sniffing. Besides, why would the Pacers even want Randle when they already have concerns playing Sabonis and Turner together? I didn't bother to hear the other proposals if that is what he led off with.
But if we're spitballing ideas, maybe the Wolves would have interest. Towns is a garbage defender but does a fantastic job at spacing the floor, which is crucial to making Randle useful at the 4. Maybe we could do Randle and DSJr for Jarrett Culver and James Johnson's dead-money. I don't think Culver will be a talent to write-home about but he does have cost-control and is a swingman with some versatility defensively off the bench. I also think he can fit nicely with Frank and RJ if he develops a more fluid, consistent jump shot.
The real swing for the fences for me would be Devin Booker. I actually think he'd be a great foundational piece for us and very well could come available this summer once the Suns miss the playoffs. He's been predicting a playoff berth for them since his year-3 season and is now finishing year-5 without having come close. With the emergence of the Luka Doncic-Mavs and Ja Morant-Grizzlies, I don't ever see them making the playoffs unless they get another game changing talent via the draft, which is unlikely given their track record. To be fair, we're not exactly a title contender but the East offers an easier path and NYC gives him a far larger platform to build his brand. Plus he's ****ing a Kardashian, so it's clear he likes the bright lights.
My offer would be our 2020 pick, both Dallas picks, Julius Randle, Dennis Smith Jr and a sign-and-traded Damyean Dotson for Devin Booker.
I actually like how our lineup would look next season...
STARTERS: Ntilikina (G), Booker (G), Barrett (F), Knox (F), Robinson (C)
BENCH: Reggie Bullock and veterans who can shoot that we acquire with our remaining cap space.
Hopefully with Leon Rose being his former agent, the process could be fast-tracked.
