Not sure if Gordon opts out of his contract this year ($34Mn) but he might be an interesting free agent option if he's available. Don't see how Boston pays him next year when they need to max Jayson Tatum and also have Jaylen Brown and Kemba Walker on the books.

Boston might also want to S&T Hayward for Randle cause they lack cap space in 2020/21.

That would kill two birds with one stone and we would possibly have room to add VanVleet and Gallinari depending on where the cap ends up. Would take us out of 2021/22 free agency but will we have a realistic chance at the top tier free agents anyway?

Hope everyone's keeping well.

Every single player with a player option will likely take it this offseason

Yeah, and we'll probably see more deals like the ones we signed Elfrid and Ellington too. Which is good, because we really shouldn't focus on this year's FA class that much. It's bad, because this may tempt the FO to consider a rash trade instead.

Hayward may be a good target for the knicks in 2021. 31 year old SF and Tatum is on the Celtics. He isn’t as big a star as Giannis, but based on how things are looking we may really want his scoring at SF. Plus he should be effective for most of that contract.

is anyone really going to give him $34m for next season? I just don't think with the salary cap about to go down, that any team is going to toss $34m per at Gordon.

This might be the last time he can get a big multiyear deal. But I think with the uncertainty about the cap, league revenues (what if this year is cut short and there are no fans in the stands for next season?), I wouldn't opt out of a deal like this if I were him.

That's me, and I know sports typically is playing with funny money.

But tell me, how do the leagues make up the loss of revenue from 80+ games with 15k+ fans in person?

After he broke his leg he hasn’t looked like the same player, don’t get me wrong his play has improved but I’d have real concerns with the injury history and his age.

I hear you. I just think that even with the injury and his age concerns Gordon makes a lot of sense. Maybe offer him 35/4.

RJ can be slotted as the second scorer at SG. Gordon as the star at SF. Even if the contract ends with him at 35. I think he holds up for most of not all that contract.

It was a bad injury and he had been trending very well. I don't see a path for him to come here. 30 years old.
He and Tatum are both 6-8 and multi tool player. Tatum 22 is two years from being best player in the NBA. Jaylen Brown is awesome athlete.
Im not expert on Celtics and their path forward. Easy to see Haywood and Brad Stevens long relationship as big part of why he went there as free agent and took one less year on his deal to do so than stay in Utah.
Does that mean something? I don't know. Things change. Boston had a window with a healthy Haywood and Horford but Haywood broke and Al is gone. The window was a good plan but did not execute.
Seems to me Brown might be a good trade chip.
Longer term Haywood is not a max salary player and I see him filling out to be a Power Forward.

It's not good business for any player to opt out on their player option this year.

Question. Teams declining their team options on players. Dick move?

Haha yeah... never considered that! Agreed any player opting out would be crazy.

I agree. But........there were fewer players in this upcoming free agent market and while money will be tight, it likely will continue into next year until the arena's can be filled and players can be tested quickly. Thus next season might be even worse. As for Haywood, for him to move I can see a long tearm deal for more years being in his best interests. Thats why perhaps staying in Boston makes sense. Question is fit?.............
Crazy shyt: Knicks sign Anthony Davis and Haywood, then trade assets to build around them. I can't imagine Davis not resigning with Lakers for at least two more years. Say a 4 year deal with a year 3 and 4 player opt out if Lebron retires or declines. But at this moment he will be a free agent at seasons end and has his house on the market. Maybe he just wants a nicer one closer to practice facility or on the water? Media gives us a peek and then we build on that. Like I said "crazy shyt!".

Haywoods definitely not a max player anymore that’s for sure. Any team that offered him a max would be a laughing stock. Maybe play the 4 in Small ball line ups but he lacks lateral quickness and he was never an explosive athlete. Would love Brown to find his way to our roster. Young, Uber athletic, developing jump shot. And always thought he was an underrated defender.

TV contracts (National) good for another 4 years......
Is there an advantage for knicks here? disadvantage for some teams?
Big question: will the free agent bonanza be affected by the next season if China continues to punish NBA, and no gate attendance?
Cap could get worse in 2021!!!!!
So maybe the notion of players not moving this summer an antiquated theory given the Covid-19 phenom? Those that can might find a better market than next given a smaller cap and a crowded market.
