The Knicks currently have the sixth worse record. If games had continued, I have no doubt they would have screwed up the tank and won enough games to move into the 8-9th spot. The team was finally starting to look competent and I think it had a real shot at playing .500 ball over the remaining games. We would have all enjoyed watching it but this suspension might have been a blessing. At 6, we should have our choice of Cole Anthony or Tyrese Haliburton.

I guess we havent learned yet.....or maybe its denial. It didnt matter b4 the new draft structure and with the new draft structure and the worse record, what pick did we get? So far KP and RJ were great picks. But in both drafts, we was expecting a higher pick. Until they follow the nfl structure where the worst team gets the top pick, this is pointless.

The good thing about the suspension is we dont have to watch a team blow up a double digit lead in the 4th quarter. Or watch them come out of halftime looking like a different team.

We dont have to hear knick fans cry and complain about everything. It gives everybody a since of peace where we can recharge. I think everybody needed this break. From the FO to the fans.

And we don't have to hear/read the de rigueur trashing of the Knicks every day.

Great Thread.. a lot is hanging in the balance at the moment:

1. End season now and have playoffs in summer allows for draft activities to continue with current positions

2. Last year many complained we were losing for no reason with new lottery structure... we’ll outcome was we ended up with 3rd pick and next three teams record wise all dropped significantly... so in last years draft it did matter that we lost as much as we did

3. Without NCAA tournament there will be tons of gems that will drop to lower picks and we would have three picks in top 38 of this draft if season ends today

4. Just a note: we have two first rounders again next year and it will be first draft with HS and 1st year players out of college.. Next years draft is expected to be super deep.

We are in great shape going forward with a lot of opportunities to improve through draft, free agent signings and maybe even some trades...

The lack of data with the short season and incomplete scouting data will create opportunities as teams will miss. This creates more “luck” given we have 3 picks. It will me we could strike out completely. It might appear the talent is spread out a bit thin with no clear cut top 5 at this point. THere will be as it gets closer.

Good points Nalod and NYVector16. The one thing the Knicks have been decent at over the last five years is drafting. Yeah, I know we missed on Donovan Mitchell, but a lot of teams missed on him. We have 3 solid picks. We just need our scouting department to do a better job than other teams in finding the gems out there. And hopefully we can move into the top 3 and draft Ball, who I think is exactly who we need to make our offense run more efficiently.

The griz and pels finish with 7th and 9th worst record last season and was rewarded with the 1st and 2nd pick. How is tanking even a realistic conversation when we saw that happen.

I would have rather see us win and our young guys showing major improvement in the process, IMO that's more rewarding than pinning our hopes on a young role player that's going to need 3 to 4 season before he's even relevant.

First it's rooting for your team to lose, now it's a good thing there's not even a season to tank in. Great points.
This really is a business, instead of a sport.

Well, at least the KP trade thread might die off, or at least get pushed to the second page...

No one is saying they are happy the season ended. We all would have rather watched the games to see the kids progress. My only point was that this might have been a blessing for the team because we likely were going to finish higher than sixth place. Obviously, that does not guarantee us a top 3 pick but it does improve are odds and it does lower the floor as to how far we can drop.

I here ya, and i totally understand your point of view.

But seeing where we have been after drafting and acquiring a bunch of recent lottery picks ( KP, DSJ, knox, frank, vonleh, mario) and having the 2nd worst record in the nba over the same time frame, is not the least bit encouraging.

Look at it like this, if we traded away all of our picks(over the last 4 or 5 seasons) for ready-to-win now players and came away avg 25 to 32 win seasons, would you be encourage to continue to do that.
