with all the talk of you guys going after another coach for next season, i wanted to post this video to give you an example of what elite coaching looks like.

yes, it's nick nurse, but i thought the video was very well done so that's why i'm sharing. i'm sure you can find vids of other teams but when folks talk about a system - this is what is being referred to.

there are a ton of teams that simply can't run/execute sets like this. it requires a brilliant progressive mind but also players that can learn and are willing to learn and take pride in it. but if you coach it, players will execute it (or at least try to) - unfortunately, alot of coaches don't practice these type of things enough nor are strong enough to hold their players accountable until they get it.

If he was coaching the knicks, fans would be saying "FIRE NICK NURSE"

If Mike Miller was coaching the Raptors, you would say, "This is coaching"

well not all coaches are created equal - and that's kind of my point. sometimes you have to think outside the box to find someone and take a chance on them. alot of coaches get props b/c they have hard working teams. and maybe the knicks need to get there first - maybe that's your first step. but to really elevate and to out perform your roster, you need someone really legit calling the shots.

i think hiring a guy like fiz and then looking at the retread market (like mark jackson, jvg, thibs) is simply smoke and mirrors - these guys have no clue how to coach in today's nba. the next coach needs to know his sh t - there's alot of guys out there but so many teams go with the also rans. maybe it's mike miller but the knicks are so into the big name now, he won't get a chance.

I get what you’re saying. Coaching is so much opportunity and luck. Nick nurse is in the right place at the right time. He might struggle with 29 other teams for all we know.

Exactly

Ny media, fans, and nightlife....

Knicks will make a hall of fame coach look like trash. Lol

One of the hardest environments to succeed in....especially with today's soft and sensitive culture. Theres no more old school thick skin pat riley types out there. Calipari, coach K.. all the tough old school coaches are staying clear from this toxicity.

The only hope is to keep targeting these young fiz type coaches, while building up enough talent to attract a decent coach. Might catch lightning in a bottle with this young coaching strategy. Once that roster is fixed and shows potential, the good coaches will come out of their man cave....

I agree w original poster. Lots of respect for nurse

There are a few coaches who have that “it” factor and are a step ahead and then there is everyone else including the bums (eg fizzdale)

Spilt milk dept: where would we be w coach budwnholzer and KP ?!?

Agree with the bold...Last time we saw Thibs, the defensive guru's defense was pathetic in Minny. Want no parts of his iso-heavy offense....We need to be innovative and hire someone who is capable of coaching in the current NBA, and not chase a big name to place on the marquee...

I heard one of the broadcasters for the Raptors interviewed last night. He was comparing Nurse to a Belichek.

It is not about NY in general, it is about NY Basketball, MSG bbal organization in particular, and culture around it.
You have Rangers sharing the same building but they do not have all this crap around the team already for a long time.
Don't blame the City but some group of people who suck a..sss.
This organization need serious cleanup and get a group of people who will shut up and admit that this club is trash and need complete rebuild from ground up.
And state clearly to the fan-base that this will need a lot of hard work and a lot of time. No shortcuts and no miracles. The train left the station long time back.
Instead we are getting one bunch of clowns after another who just making use of Dolan stupidity and loads of free cache.

yes, that is impressive. I find it even more amazing that Nurse will call different defensive sets while the game is being played, and the players are prepared enough where they execute without thinking. Really A+, choice stuff

I don't watch Raptors much at all but their starting lineup is impressive from an IQ standpoint:

Siakam
Anunoby
Ibaka
Lowry
VanVleet

Solid offense, defense all around and I don't even know if that's their regular lineup
