Makes sense for both teams imo. Wolves get to clear cap from a player they hardly utilize. Dieng is only 30 and would be a nice upgrade over Gibson based off how Gibson is used here. His per 36 is like 14-12-2sts-2blks. He provides an actual center with size to plug in as a stop gap in front of Mitch providing.
The draft pick comes from the fact that his contract has another season after this one at 17mil. But I don't see us netting any top level FA. Van Fleet seems like the only possible scenario. Getting a player who can help us now as well as a future asset would be the better value. And should still have cap for a FA with Portis coming off and Smith probably moved. Also depends on what they do with Morris.
Also sets the Knicks up with 3 future picks from other teams. So some packaging could be done down the road with Dieng's expiring and some of those assets for a big time player(with prospects like Knox and Smith to maybe dangle for the right guy)
