Bring back coach miller and just replace Payton with VanVleet. Mitch and RJ take a step forward with Randle, Morris and VanVleet in the lineup. Knox, frank, Bullock, our lottery pick off the bench. Portis, Gibson, Payton and Ellington all let go for the cap space but maybe Gibson brought back for less. How good would that team be ?

I'd like to keep Payton and maybe Portis. You can never have enough depth, Payton would be an awesome back up PG - I love Frank, hope he takes the next step and can contribute this year. But I need insurance for Frank not developing or getting hurt.

And Portis has slowly started to play much better - look at his monthly splits:

Now - I'm not really of a mind to keep Portis at $15.7 - so depending on where all the chips fall in the off season, if you're able to add a VanVleet, obviously that is a huge upgrade.

Its all very good the current trend. The team is improving vastly and naturally Randle and Morris are a big part of it. Gives me some confidence that the FO was not clueless. This team in this state would be looking at a late playoff seed. That was the goal.
At the same time we are not at the halfway mark.....but its obvious Morris can fetch a nice return. The future at the SF is Barrett. Morris wants to be here, that's all real nice. Don't they all in a contract year? He from Philly and that might be even better for him. Lets not kid ourselves, this guy reneged on SAS for 50% pay increase. And be closer to Philly!! Can't blame him, but his NY love will come at a price. I like the guy, but I can't really put a value on him.
Meanwhile Bullock is good, young and a likely far lessor cost.

VanVleet. Nope. He is an upgrade for sure. Again, what price?
Love the clutch drive by frank last night. Great read. He does this once or twice a game. Seems like MOrris and Randle won't pass back to him.
Is that the plan???
Frank has taken the next step. But its a stair case. one at a time!!

Portis is terrible defender and when he is not hitting 3th and spacing he is a turnover machine.
He will always look OK on bad team bench and he does.
If his stats are good enough to fool some body around we may get something for him...

That is one of my problems with Frank. He passes the ball to move it and he expects it to come back but it never does. He needs to man up and when this happens then he has to look for his shot initially and shoot or drive. He is too passive in getting his own.

Actually - as I think about this - the question really is what does the next step for our team look like.

They were in the clipper game - since Fizdale was canned and we got a real coach, we've been playing well and have just fallen short at times against really good teams.

Keep this group together, largely, add someone like VanFleet and our 2020 draft pick and have some players take next steps like Knox, Robinson, Frank and Barrett - and I think we'd legitimately (baring major injuries) have a shot at winning in the 40s - so anywhere from 40-49.

I'm trying to be objective and not rose colored glasses Nixluva like.

Van Fleet would be awesome here. He's a good 3pt shooter but doesn't shoot well from the field though. He's gotta be on our radar. Especially if we can't draft a point

My guess is this is the coaches will. They break down video and what Im guessing is there are times frank pulls out and he has to see it and keep probing and then go for it. The drive late in the clipper game was not a gimme but no doubt the defense was expecting him to pass. It was contested and a strong move to the rim. Its not "French passive behavior". At the same time he is not delusionary over confident. The kid is legitimately unselfish and perhaps to a fault. We see progress. I like him in a back up role for now.

As for VanVleet, I pass. Lets draft our own. Easier said then done but it depends on his market price. Most likely Raptors keep him.

Vanfleet(Portis 15mm + Ellington 8mm + DSJ(traded) 6mm = 29mmmm year/4 years)
Edwards/Haliburton (Haliburton is very effective w/o the ball)
Morris(16mm 3 year)
Randle
Biyombo(MLE)

Payton/Frank
Bullock
RJ
Knox/Gibson
Robinson

37+ wins

Following year best case scenario:

Vanfleet
Edwards/Halliburton
Morris
Giannis( Randle 20mm + Gibson 9mm + Payton 8mmm)
Robinson(should be a proper starter by now)

Frank
RJ
2021 pick Dallas 1st/Bullock MLE
Knox
2021 pick our 1st

Very deep roster but not enough for title yet 45+

At this point, we make a big trade to bring Luka to NY as hes tired of KPs bs( Edwards+ Morris expiring+ dallas 1st+ future pick)

Vanfleet
Doncic
RJ Barrett
Giannis
Robinson

Frank
Bullock
2022 pick( or 1 of our 2nd rounders who knows)
Knox
2021 1st

= 2022 NBA title.

So Fred + Haliburton/Edwards + Morris = NBA title in 4 years .

I'm very sad.

The Future is Bright!
