I think many of you have forgotten that the long term goal in 1975 or so was to win another ring. Few teams in NBA history have pursued longer goals. With the hiring of Phil, we transitioned from attempting to buy ourselves into a ring to attempting to build our way into a ring.
Last year was a housecleaning and the drafting of our second unicorn [Frankie being the holdover from Phil]. Last year's housecleaning resulted in a re-imagining of free agency due to circumstances beyond management's control.
While everyone anticipated a different rebuild, what we got was a more pragmatic model with a longer runway to the goal.
The team has not been deeper in young talent for decades and there is virtually no cruft on a three deep roster at every position. Its a fully realized rebuild.
Now you can argue you don't think much of it or that you would have done it differently. But it was thoughtful, deliberate, and has a visionary trajectory [hard-nosed, underdog BB].
The execution of free agency indicates that management has learned some lessons about contracts and expectations. Shorter contracts will yield stronger results and are more portable in trades. Recalibrating the roster on the fly is a feature.
*Hopefully* last year's tanking experience has taught them not to do that again.
