Seems like given the price we paid to get DSjr it would be illogical to not give him more time unless there is an MRI that would change the circumstances.
If Frank is indeed trade bait would he be more valuable as a prospect to a team if he was extended?
If he is not valuable as a prospect he is salary cap fodder and would be traded without an extension. I don’t see that as a likely scenario.
Nalod expects both players to be given extensions. We have an illogical roster at the moment and perhaps a trade might clear it up. Movement of either Frank, Dot, or Trier would not surprise me.
I wonder if Trier is the player grumbling for minutes. If what we are reading about holding the ball is an issue and defense are issues the lack of traits don’t favor him.
Dot is a big body guard with good handle, good defensive presence, a so so finisher and streaky shooter. RJ Barrett similar but 6 years younger. Dot coming off shoulder surgery. His status and position not he team is murky to me.
I think extension was mentioned to given or not by Wednesday’s first game.
For that matter Dot or Trier could get waived unless a draft pick comes back. Knicks might want to pick up a player waived they like.
I’m not predicting. I’m discussing.
Knicks extend Frank only
Knicks extend DSjr Only
Knicks extend both
Knicks Decline To extend Frank Only
Knicks Decline to extend DSjr Only
KNicks Decline both

I don't understand how you don't extend both players, even if you don't want them long term - easier to trade them mid season.

This. Using what should be the norm in any sport teams philosophy. Don't give up on guys you drafted just a couple of years into their tenure. Specially if your claiming you are "Rebuilding the right way". Good organizations find a way to develop and keep ALL their young assets. Bad ones don't know how to develop, are not realistic with time frames and also lose the good ones for reasons that could have been avoided.

exacty... they are freakin kids. Why draft teenagers if you are quitting on their development after year 2. Unless they are dreadful or clearly have better players ahead of them you keep them. That is not the case with Frank or DSjr.

Example: If Detroit values Frank as a prospect and we don't extend him he is a free agent after this season. Thus, they trade and then he can walk.
