“Our team, it’s really a group of guys that wanna hoop, compete at a high level and win games,” he said. “I think if we build this identity early of a real selfless team that’s gonna scrap on both ends of the court, I think we can be pretty good this year, and then build on that for years to come.”

“It’s just been relentless work. I feel like I’ve got something to prove,” he said. “I’ve got a chip on my shoulder still, but I’ve just been working. I try to attack each day and look at it as if I didn’t leave anything on the table. I got the most out of my day. … I’m gonna come in, bring that into training camp and be a leader, lead by example, earn my respect from these guys and then carry that into the season.”

I think that years and years ago, I was once a Knicks fan that got excited by players talking up their Knicks teams during the offseason. I then learned that the quote and great sounding attitudes and workout videos and pics do not mean a good season is following. Sorry for sounding negative. It’s the sad truth though.

Long long list of NBA players telling media and of course readers what they want to hear.
Hate to bust anyone’s bubble but coaches and Executive do it too sometimes. They won’t sell a tank, but sometime will try to sell patience.
Melo told us he’d sacrifice his game.
KP loves NY.

Maybe they have good intentions when they say these things. I believe Dennis has good intentions and his confidence is good. MAYBE for the first time since he is a pro he is healthy to bring what he is capable of and “Feels good” about it.

We do read often guys really do like playing for Fiz and he is a great communicator. For all the changes and hardship of last year the team never fractured despite the frequent roster change and infrequent winning. Fiz openly did not point fingers either. 17wins is awful but while we all might not agree it could have been pursposeful as the rookies got a lot of burn.

I am confident based only on logic we’ll see a further evolution into some type of “system” or team characteristics as the players become set in their roles. Will this be a “tough guy” Team? “Fast pace run and gun”? “Defense first”? “Three point rain of fire”? “ISO Young guys running free”?

Looking forward to the season no matter what the outcome. There is joy from growth. At some point it happens. If not, there is hope. If nothing but despair then why bother?

Clearly better than saying something stupid, but we should all keep in mind that talk is cheap

Phil came in with cute Zen-isms and "playoff team" dreams. It came to nothing but naps and sunk costs and boring back page Melodrama. But it's Jimmie's money, so who cared? Now we've got Mills with two newbies and they have spent the last year and a half cleaning house. Nobody but Frankie left in the building.

"real selfless"? As opposed to fake selfless? What does this mean? Is anyone counting the assists and ball movement at these workouts and scrimmages? Who knows?

"scrap on both ends"? The continually depressed amongst us could take that comment any number of ways. Or maybe all these short term contracts and yoots with everything to prove could turn this into a training camp full of 1970's hustle and grit. Kicks flying apart. People diving for loose balls. Lots of talk on D. Blocks that start fast breaks. Nobody takes a possession off. Fiz is saying the right things, as if everyone's starting at the same pole position.

Should be interesting. For some reason, I'm smelling a youthier version of 1998-1999. Or maybe I just missed my meds this morning.

Either way, it will always be worth watching or listening to. For the truly faithful, what else is there?

“Lord, to whom shall we go?"

Dennis has the ability and potential to be a "star"!!!! Dallas did right to trade him and go with Luka. They also did not force a chemistry to keep them together. We heard from Fiz last year he really wanted Frank and Dennis on the court last year the last 20 or so games. On paper there is potential for a good fit. They each bring different skill sets and COULD be complimentary.
On paper this looks good:

Mitch
Knox
RJ
Frank
Dennis......

Not a one over the age of 21!!! WE don't play games on paper and we can't very well just start this group and "see what happens"......
I fully expect some combo of youth playing based on Merit and the various role players we signed.

As for real line up? Its anyones guess really. As fans we all have our bit of preference/prejudice/favorites. Im fascinated by RJ Barretts potential, Knox's development (his games speaks louder than any bravado) and the chemistry of Frank/Dennis. That duo mignt never amount or see the light of day but as said before that was the plan.

Well, Gustav tore his quad, on some wet steps. Waiting at the doctor's office. Going to need surgery, which sucks because I was about to move.

Anyway, agree that we shouldnt put too much stock in these kinds of pronouncements. One thing I did find encouraging was how Smith jr, talked about how competitive the players are in practice, the trash talking. I like that there are starting jobs up for grabs, and it looks like the competition will be robust.

oh man... that really blows. I wish you a speedy recovery dude. Getting hurt is tough. Remember to take care of yourself between the ears. Maybe the Knicks will do something nice enough to keep you distracted!

Like kicking KPs ass? Maybe RJ dunking on Zion?

Feel better soon Gustav. You’ll get there before you know it.

They told me after the MRI at the hospital that it was a full rupture. Have about a week to have surgery, or there could be issues with my recovery. Hopefully I will know about when Im having surgery next week. Thanks for asking.

It's a slow recovery but you can get pretty much back to norm'ish depending on circumstance insofar as I know. Good luck with it. I think similar to Tony Parker
