17-51 record (sound familiar) in 2 seasons (draft positions are determined by 2 yr record) and all it took was getting dolans vibe and energy away.

They are in line to get the Best PG in the country.

He sold the team to the NETS new owner...lol

Here’s something to make a Knicks fan weep: In January, the New York Liberty threw off the yoke of James Dolan. Tuesday evening, for the first time in franchise history, they secured the first pick in the 2020 WNBA draft.

The Liberty entered the lottery with a 44.2 percent chance at the top pick, thanks to their 17-51 record over the past two seasons. WNBA lottery odds are based on a team’s two-season aggregate record, which is to say the Liberty had to tank twice as hard for half as much.

Their number-one pick will almost certainly be Oregon’s dazzling star point guard Sabrina Ionescu, who considered entering the 2019 draft this April but chose to return to Oregon for her senior year instead.

Tuesday’s news is a morale boost for a franchise in desperate need of one (they’re also in desperate need of a point guard). Before selling the team, Dolan moved the Liberty from Madison Square Garden—where the team regularly drew crowds of 10,000—to the small, wholly depressing Westchester County Center, which feels better-suited to host community theater productions of Seussical the Musical and seats only 5,000.

The team’s new owner, soon-to-be Brooklyn Nets majority owner Joe Tsai, seems, in a massive upgrade, not needlessly cruel and boneheaded. He’s also said he’s interested in moving the Liberty full-time to Brooklyn’s Barclays Center, an arena far more worthy of Ionescu’s talent.

He sold the team because it wasn't making any Money, they had terrible attendance..

That will be the only way he sells the knicks, or some gazillioniare offers him a boatload of money

This obsession some fans have about Dolan is so tedious. Most billionaires are weirdos or a**holes, I think some fans are deluded thinking the next owner would be some sort of wondrous being. Dolan isn't afraid to spend and doesn't interfere anymore- that's about the best you can realistically have.

Liberty had some very good years on the court.
Yes, becareful what you wish for. New owner is not always a "better" owner.
That said, sure I'd like a better leader as owner. 4billion for the package? That's not an easy sale. Debt ratio's matter.

Trolling the facts:

WNBA plays 34 game seasons. They use a two year record to compile the odds. It went like this:

WNBA DRAFT LOTTERY 2020 RESULTS

1.New York Liberty, 17-51 combined 2018-2019 record, Chances out of 1,000: 442
2.Dallas Wings, 25-43 combined 2018-2019 record, Chances out of 1,000: 178
3.Indiana Fever, 19-49 combined 2018-2019 record, Chances out of 1,000: 276
4. Atlanta Dream, 31-37 combined 2018-2019 record, Chances out of 1,000: 104

In the NY liberty history 23 teams have existed. Liberty are 5th in all time winning percentage.
Made the finals 4 of the leagues first 6 seasons. They have the second best attendance in the History of the league.
Made the playoffs 15 of 22 seasons.
Liberty under Dolan were substantially more successful than the knicks were.

Liberty had a 44% chance at the top pick. Knicks had 14.5% chance. If the odds were even it would be Ironic as all get out!!
But given the math, its not.

Im thinking the two year average mignt be a pretty good idea!!!

Add Griffin to the mix and it gets even more ridiculously fishy.

I think it's not always a scam, but I think the league can and does intervene when they feel it's important/necessary.

not a Scam. Math. I have a hard time believing some teams owners would consent giving up picks work the hundreds of millions unless there was a concerted effort to compensate them. Your talking about collusion. Do I feel like it ever happened before? Perhaps yes in a league in times where the league was struggling.

If the league hates knicks, whey they give them Ewing?
Why do we connect to conspiracy in years there are not franchise defining players? Teams regularly move up or down in the lottery.
Dolan is one of the elder owners with the most valuable franchise in the league. He has clout. Knicks have paid huge taxes in prior years. Yet they don’t get Zion? They actually till defied the odds by getting the third pick.

What if an owner sued the league if there was a conspiracy to manipulate the draft? I get there are Anti Trust powers the league can do as it might please but at some point an owner might kick up and challenge the status quo.
Bottom line is teams end up with high picks because they suck.

No substantial evidence has been bought forth by an investigative journalist to crack a hint of conspiracy. Just “fishy”? Yes, I do admit math colliding with circumstances looks bad. But with 30 teams and bad teams being in the lottery the odds are from time to time they will happen.

the draft is a tv event not a legitimate team building opportunity. it's meant to make the bad teams feel important.
